The best GMail client on your status bar!
The idea is great, but the bugs are grating.
While I really like the concept (even considering that I'm not much of a twitter or facebook user, though having it in a combo 'notifying' app I find I've been using both more heavily), there is one bug that makes it nearly unusable for me: when I manually refresh the mail screen, it loads to a blank page. I have to go out to the main menu and navigate back into my inbox for it to refresh properly -- and even that sometimes results in a blank page, at which point I'm stuck and have to reboot the app.
This wouldn't be SUCH a horrible issue if it checked/refreshed automatically on a more frequent basis. I have the update frequency set to 30 seconds (by default, not really necessary but what the hey) but I've clicked on it several times to find that it hasn't updated for 30 minutes or more.
I've tried a couple of other Gmail notifying applications, and this is the best in design but the worst in execution. If it can't handle the functionality you've designed into it, it shouldn't attempt to support that function. If you can't program it to work, then maybe your app isn't ready for distribution.
This app is absolutely awesome. It works seamlessly with my computer and is nicely hidden away on the menu bar. The only time I've opened gmail in my browser since I got it was to send emails with attachments! There are only 2 improvements I see as necessary. One would be (if possible) adding a way to send emails with attachments from Mailbox, and the other would be having it automatically update and give a "new mail" sound or symbol or something rather than having to go in and have it refresh myself. These would push it easily to 5 stars!
Great idea; poorly executed.
This app is very similiar to a now defunct app called Notify. However, this version isn't feature rich at all. By this I mean, it lacks MULTIPLE account support, growl notification ability and unread notification count. There has been no design changes what so ever be it that this is simply the iPhone view; so I cannot call this elegant by any means as the developer has done nothing but use what was designed by someone else.
Step it up dude… you're on the right track but you need to listen to your user base. Add some basic functionality (multiple accounts!!) and I'll re-rate my review.
