MailPop PRO for Gmail
By Binary Bakery
Open the Mac App Store to buy and download apps.
Download now! We love Gmail as much as you do. That's why we created MailPop PRO for Gmail. It's the simplest, most fluid way to access your Gmail account.
True to Mac functionality, MailPop PRO is a simple and slick tool for accessing your Gmail account.
After launching MailPop PRO, all it takes is a single click on its menu bar icon (or keyboard shortcut) to access your Gmail account in a jiffy. Want to write an email instead? All it takes is a right-click on the icon (or keyboard shortcut) to open a new message window!
Chock-full of awesome, mouth-watering features:
*INBOX SHORTCUT (or click on the menu bar icon) to quickly open MailPop's window.
*COMPOSE SHORTCUT (or right click on the menu bar icon) to quickly open a new message window, complete with a Media Browser for quickly dragging-and-dropping attachments!
*CLEAR AND INFORMATIVE MENU BAR NOTIFICATIONS. Menu bar icon notification color graphic and numeric (number of unread messages).
*FULL DESKTOP VIEW MODE WITH CHAT.
*FULL TABLET VIEW MODE. Love Gmail on your iPad? Now you can have that same, beautiful view on your Mac (in fullscreen too!).
*MOUNTAIN LION AND GROWL NOTIFICATIONS.
*ABILITY TO MAKE MAILPOP AS YOUR SYSTEM-WIDE DEFAULT MAIL APP. All mailto: links will be handled by MailPop. It'll automagically open a new compose window!
*OPACITY CONTROL. Go sneaky and use Gmail at work!
*SHORTCUTS ABOUND. Besides the customisable pop-up and compose shortcuts, standard shortcuts include CTRL-R to refresh and CTRL-N to compose a new message within MailPop's main window.
Click on the gear icon in MailPop's window and open the Preferences to customize shortcuts, notifications and other features.

Functional, does the job. May not look great while doing it.
I've been looking for a way to write a quick email without loading up Mailplane or whatever mail app I am prone to be using. MailPop PRO does the trick. One keystroke and bam, I'm writing an email. There's a brief load time but it's barely noticable. I don't know often I need to pull up the mail list - it essentially is a wrapper for the iPhone version of Gmail so keyboard shortcuts don't work - but it's fine. Really, I just needed the keyboard shortcut and quick email.
The design is acceptable. Would be better if it felt more Mac/modern and less Win98.
Great with a BUG
I notice that when it pops up a notification for a new email, when I click the notification it takes me to MailPop Pro, but doesn't show the new message. It shows a list of old messages. Clearly seems to be a bug. Also, need an option to change update interval.
PLEASE fix this bug where MailPop doesn't update it's mail! It pops up message alerts but when you open the app, new mail is not there until you manually hit refresh. I let the computer sit for hours and it still didn't update the apps' mail!
Piece of garbage...
Just bought it, opens from top of desktop…nowhere does it say anything about it being "MailPop Pro," looks like a gmail window only…i have 2 gmail accounts, when open app, no support..no instructions…no controls or settings or drop down menus to add another gmail account, and when it is open to "tablet" view, if you click on an email IT DOESN'T SHOW YOU THE BODY OF THE EMAIL!!! works okay in desktop mode, but that looks exactly the same as it does when viewing through a web browser. why bother if it looks exactly like it does through gmail!!!!
