Description

"This game will be bigger than Skyrim!” - Bill Corbett, Rifftrax/MST3K

WARNING: This is REAL retro gaming! Be prepared for vast, unique levels with challenging boss battles!

MANOS is an homage to the great games you remember from your childhood! Remember how every film and cartoon had it's own platform game adaptation? When every man, woman, child, animal and inanimate object were out to get your character? When the streets were filled with bats, ghosts and Frankenstein monsters? MANOS will take you back to the fantastically absurd games of the past!

Lost on their vacation, Mike and his family have wandered the desert trying to find a place to stay, only to wind up in the haunted Valley Lodge. Maintained by Torgo, an unusual man/satyr who "takes care of the place while The Master is away", the hotel is swimming with paranormal activity which Mike has to brave through to find his now missing family. Who is The Master, and what does he want with Mike's family? Armed with his trusty revolver, Mike will have to wander the haunted halls, venture out into the desert, uncover a dark temple and battle the forces of darkness to find out!

- Huge levels with boss battles at the end of each!
- True classic gameplay!
- 100% authentic retro style!

Family Game

My aunt played Debbie in this movie, and it is awsome to see its come this far!!

Lots of potential

This is the closest thing to a classic game experience. It's is difficult considering the virtual buttons but will have you feeling like you're playing on the nes. The storyline is ridiculous...the main character's wife says they have to find lodging and off you go shooting weird things that come across you. And jumping and collecting things. Fun never the less lots of potential

A good combination of Mega Man and Castlevania

The gameplay is very fast paced and addictive. I like it a lot.

The Graphics feel so 8-bit and I love it. I hate games that claim to be 8-bit just because they have pixelated graphics. This game isn't that. It truly feels 8-bit with the color simple palettes and sprite designs.

Controls are good. A bit too slippery for a shooter game in my opinion but you'll get used to them somewhat quickly.

I have some issues with some of the level design or boss design. For example, at the end of the second level, I'm fighting the boss. I decide to use a strategy where I stick in the left corner, dodge attacks, and then shoot. I have one piece of health left. Then when I'm close to beating the boss, the game generates an enemy RIGHT WHERE I'M STANDING. So I die and get a game over. Don't get me wrong, I love challenge, but I hate cheap level design. I know many 8-bit games on the NES where cheap, but many classics like Mario, or Contra were completely fair while at the same time very very hard. In those games, when I die I blame myself, while in this game, there are times when I die and I blame it on the game.

My biggest issue is that there are unlimited continues, yet no saving. Come on, that's just dumb. If you have limited continues, I could somewhat understand, but unlimited continues with no saving? Basically it's pure luck whether my progress is continued when I open the app up because there are times where it gets closed and reopened for about five seconds, but takes me back to the menu screen taking me from level five to level one. Oh gee, thanks. Please fix this. I think that no saving with unlimited continues is honoring a tradition from the NES era that should stay gone from now on. Especially on an Ipad, it's hard to play a whole game like this all in one sitting. I mean, if you want to stay authentic remember, Zelda and Kirby had saving. Heck, I'd even be okay with passwords like Mega Man. But no way to continue after leaving the game? That's just irritating.

No saving is the one reason alone I rated it 3 stars instead of 5. Fix it, and I'll give this game 5 stars.
