Description

Mapillary is the street-level imagery platform that scales and automates mapping using collaboration, cameras, and computer vision.

Anyone can capture images of any place, as often as needed, with any camera—including smartphones. Mapillary combines all images into a collaborative street-level view of the world that’s available for anyone to explore and use for improving maps, cities, and mobility. Computer vision technology provides a smooth viewing experience and speeds up mapping through machine-extracted map data.

Capturing with the Mapillary mobile app is the easiest way to join our contributor network. Let’s get started!

CREATE YOUR OWN STREET-LEVEL VIEWS
You control when and where to capture to create the freshest street-level imagery. Mapillary’s technology combines all images into a navigable view and blurs faces and license plates for privacy.

ACCESS AND OPEN UP DATA
Mapillary contributors are people, organizations, companies, and governments in 190 countries. Millions of images are added to the dataset every week, which you can explore right here in the mobile app.

MAKE BETTER MAPS
Use imagery and machine-extracted data to add details to maps and geospatial datasets. Mapillary integrates with tools like OpenStreetMap iD editor and JOSM, HERE Map Creator, and ArcGIS. To access the available map data, go to mapillary.com/app.

A great app, and a great tool

This app is great, well-designed, and already one of my favorite tools for adding data to OpenStreetMap too, and I've only used it a couple times!
I have only one complaint... You can't throttle the upload speed. Whenever I've got hundreds of photos to upload, my wifi becomes unusable by anyone or anything but this app. If it weren't for that, I'd give it five stars.

Developer Response ,

Hi! Thanks for your review, and thank you for your contributions to Mapillary! The ability to better manage upload speed is something we're currently working on, so if you're still interested in Mapillary, please stay posted for that. :)

Can’t log in ever

Keep resetting my password then type it in but can never get past the login screen. I keep getting an error message when trying to log in. ** Update ** The developer asked me to look at the app again and re-rate it. I appreciate the fact that they are interested and I can now login. But that’s the extent of my success. It is a confusing app with a bunch of icons that don’t seem to do anything or what they do is a mystery. For example you press one button and it changes some things from green to orange. But I don’t understand why. There’s other icons that tell you that you are now in some kind of beta test. But it’s not readily apparent why the map changed or what the difference is. It doesn’t find businesses, and basic navigation doesn’t work. I type in an address to a known location and it finds that location provides no method of navigation to that location. I frankly don’t see the point to this app other than that they want you to take pictures of the area for them for free.
** more updates ** I see some from other reviews that they are now owned by Facebook. That kills it for me I’ll have nothing to do with them.

Hi there bkarlan, it looks like you might be looking for a navigation app like Apple Maps or Google Maps. Mapillary is a different kind of app used for creating maps and map data by capturing street level imagery. Sorry for the confusion and hope you find what you are looking for!

Interface a bit crude

Interface really needs a refresh and a thick coat of polish. Too many times that I thought I triggered the camera on or off, and no nothing happened. Would help a lot if I could trigger that using the volume button as one an with Apple’s own x camera app. Also, returning from panels back to the main interface requires tapping a small X which most of the time it ignores you so you end up tapping 5 times and now and again you have to just force quit and restart.

Also, this app absolutely kills my phone battery.

Developer Response ,

Hi rbs, thank you for your feedback. We are working on an updated interface refresh now, stay tuned!
