What's New

Version 3.7.1

We made the Reading List page a little easier to navigate on iPhones. The search from 3.6 still works great!

Also, we removed the ability to sign in with a Google account. Please see the Sign In screen in the app for instructions on how to sign in.

Still pretty good

1/7/17 update - having a big issue with the app right now. After almost every issue I read, I get signed out. So when I get to the final menu it offers to let me read a sample of the next issue or sign in. So then I have to go to the multi page sign in process and then find where I was, read the next issue and the. Start the process all over again. VERY infuriating. Because when you're signed out you can't read the issues you've downloaded for offline reading and then you can't sign in because you're offline! But you never realize when you're in the middle of an issue that it has signed you out to sign back in before you go offline for any reason. I'll say that a symptom of it does seem to be that you're reading an issue and your iPad drops to one or two wifi bars. Got any clue software engineers?

I've reviewed this before but it's been updated a few times so I wanted to give an update. The app handles downloads a TON better, very smooth. The only current glitch I can see is that sometimes with trying to get 12 offline issues it thinks there's more in there than there actually is and it says you can't add more issues. Then you have to completely close the app and restart it and must reset its internal counter or something. Idk. But it has definitely improved since my last review.

Great idea, poorly programmed app

When it works it’s great. When it doesn’t, you’re having a terrible time. Examples? A “read offline” function that doesn’t actually save the comic to be read offline. The app only sometimes remembers where you left off, which means turning many pages to get to where you actually left off. A search function that leaves a lot to luck when finding what you’re looking for. I haven’t found a lot of “adult” targeted comics like Alias (Jessica Jones original series) but hoping those get added soon. There are times where the app loads nonsensical dummy text in the description instead of an actual synopsis. (Lorem Ipsum text). And worst of all, their servers are pretty slow and unreliable which means that even if I’m on a fast WiFi connection, sometimes the comics won’t download or download very slowly. Especially frustrating when it’s a comic that I downloaded for offline reading.

The Good? Beautiful high resolution pages, Nice sized library to pick from, great cinematic scrolling through panels that brings the content and stories to life. I’m sure that takes a lot of work on their end and it’s worth the price of admission. They have curated and promoted content that I didn’t know about.

It’s just too bad that on a technical level the app is unreliable. I’ll revise my review when this fix all my complaints

I am Disappoint

I have the Marvel comics app, which runs on the Comixology template. Love that app. All my purchases are located in one spot. I can organize them by title, story arc, or even recency.

This app, on the other hand, lacks even the ability to organize your titles by, well, title. So every time you want to read a specific book or issue, be prepared to start scrolling . . . and scrolling . . . and scrolling. Then you can finally start read -- nope, my bad, keep scrolling some more!

Look, Marvel Unlimited, take a seat. We need to talk. Your big brother, Marvel Comics (brought to you by Comixology) is making you look like a scrub. You can do better. I know you are capable of greater things, but you gotta put some effort into it, okay? No more video games after school. You need to buckle down and take some pride in your work. Until you can demonstrate that you are worthy of my annual subscription fee, I'm afraid I have no choice other than to withhold your allowance. No, I don't wanna hear about what Dark Horse or Image are doing. If they jumped off of a cliff, would you? And, in any event, they are both leaps and bounds ahead of you. Straight to your room, mister, and I don't want to see you until you've thought long and hard about your shortcomings and start making some real progress. I say good day.
