A Meditation App that Stresses Me Out?
I really want to like this app more--it seems the Zen thing to do. But for that to happen, something needs to be fixed: the quality of the meditations themselves. There's a really nice variety of meditations here--especially for a free app. But most of the meditation leaders feel like they're phoning it in. At best, you get the definite sense that the leader is merely reading what they consider to be a very uninteresting script; at worst, you get this quality in the hands of someone who rushes through it. One of the sleep meditations is particularly exemplary of this, with the leader peppering me with questions before I could answer just one. In that example, she tries to mentally walk me to my happy place, and just as I arrive and start to spread a blanket to get comfy, she assaults me with so many questions that my head starts to spin: "What do you see there?" "Are there trees?" "Do you hear birds?" "Is there a stream nearby?" "What's the weather like?" "What's the five day forecast for this week?" "Look, something is over there!" "Squirrels!!" I felt like I was on a walk with my five year old. Alas.
Already Changing My Life!!
New to meditation and can't believe the changes. I've been using this app for about 15 days. The first guided meditations setup for beginners and 5-8 mins long. Seems like it's nothing and nice right in the morning. No way it could change my whole day with something that small.... until I notice myself happier, seems like everyone around me is more peaceful. The other day I notice three different times something happened that normally I would react with great anger and didn't even care. Like this is changing my first reaction and not just my second thought response. Crazy amazing. Can't wait to progress into the huge library in the app of future stuff specifically setup for parents, stress, sleep, healing, etc. My heart rate (I track it daily) is getting lower and safer, my life and relationships, including with Christ (they don't get into spiritual here - that's just me), are getting better... all in 15 days. Thank you!!
The way guided mediation was meant to be
Meditation Studio excels where other mediation apps do not; in it's willingness to teach you how meditate, and in its' refusal to simply sell you meditations in hope that you'll stick with it.
The teachers in Mediation Studio help to develop your breathing, visualization, introspection, and other mediation skills, allowing you to meditate on your own when you're ready. This is in stark contrast with the recent trend in mediation apps today which require monthly subscriptions and in-app purchases for you to continue your practice. Where these apps sell you a fish, Mediation Studio teaches you how to catch your own.
Like exercise, mediation is a daily practice that requires focus, good form, and conscious goals. Mediation Studio helps instill these practices in you not just for the remainder or your subscription, but for the rest of your life. Trust me, it's worth it.
