This augmented reality (AR) app demonstrates the mechanism of disease (MOD) and mechanism of action (MOA) of a drug called Vorapaxar. Vorapaxar represents a new class of anti-platelet drug designed to inhibit platelet aggregation, or clotting, in diseased blood vessels. This app may be used to educate a patient at the point-of-care, highlighting the important molecule processes involved.
By tapping on the MOD button, the user sees a computer-generated 3D model of a blood vessel that becomes blocked because of unwanted clotting. A closeup section of a platelet surface shows a purple PAR1 receptor molecule interacting with a yellow thrombin molecule and stimulating the blood vessel clot formation that eventually blocks blood flow.
By selecting the MOA button, the user is able to watch as a red Vorapaxar drug molecule blocks the PAR1 receptor from activating the platelets; inhibiting the clotting cascade.
