Customer Reviews
App/site are obnoxious; Meetup is great
This is a review of the app...and site. I've had great experiences with Meetup in spite of these. The app is inconsistent with the website. When trying to do something on the site that can't be done in the app, I've used the option to view my group's web site, but the mobile version that you get is just as limited and you can no longer get it to display the desktop version. I don't care if it's tiny in my phone as long as it does what I need it to. Is it even possible to approve members in the app? If yes, it's not obvious how. In both the site and app, it's hard to tell what the notifications refer to or what notification has been read or not (gray/not gray?). And when it seems that you've viewed all notifications, you close out and the notification number remains, though possibly reduced by an arbitrary number. At one point, I somehow had one picture in my profile in the app and another on the site. Improve the app and site and make them sync and function similarly or ditch the app and make a much improved responsive site for a more consistent and useful experience.
Kept me from losing my sanity
Rushed out to Hawaii almost 5 months ago to care for my mother who suddenly had a stroke. Knew no one out here. 3 weeks ago I realized that I needed to socialize with a human being other than my mother and hospital staff before I lost my mind. Didn't know where to start, decided to give MeetUp a try. Was scared at first, but I figured if I were to have a horrible experience, I'd never have to see these people again so I really had nothing to lose. So far, so good! Everyone has been kind. And it turned out that many people at these events were new to MeetUp so we all got to laugh about how nervous we were. I've had only good times, have met great people, and I'm looking forward to the next event!
This app is easy to use and has been a sanity saver for me! I highly recommend it!
App wont login using Facebook
I have a Meetup account linked to my Facebook and I _was_ successfully logged in using Facebook not even ten minutes prior to this situation: I logged out of Meetup and tried to log back in. (I thought relogging would update my groups since I just left a few but they were still in "My Groups" tab.) When I hit the FB button to log back, it opened the FB app as per normal use. When it switched back from the FB app to Meetup it failed to login. I hit the FB button again. Same thing. I tried it one more time and Meetup gave me a notice that my "IP has been flagged for suspicious activity."
I am glad Meetup cares about users getting hacked and all but all I was doing was trying to re-login. >_< The meetup app is not allowing me to login anymore using Facebook. No settings were changed in the FB app and I hadn't even manually switched apps to use ANY other during this situation other than Meetup auto-switching to FB. Meetup app is useless to me now since I can't login.
