Meetup brings people together in thousands of cities to do more of what they want to do in life. It is organized around one simple idea: when we get together and do the things that matter to us, we’re at our best. And that’s what Meetup does. It brings people together to do, explore, teach and learn.
For example, people run marathons, thanks to running Meetups. They write, thanks to writing Meetups. They change their careers, thanks to career Meetups. Because at Meetups, people welcome each other. They talk, help, mentor, and support each other – all in pursuit of achieving their life goals.

Meet Up, it's been great.
Meet up is great for anyone who wants to go explore their city because it provides various events of interest. I've used the app in San Francisco and now in LA, and have discovered a lot cool destinations. The notifications can get a bit confusing and overwhelming if you start joining multiple groups- it will notify you for every event each group posts. So just make sure to remember the title of the actual event you RSVP'd.
One thing I do wish they would add to the app is a "meet up friend" tab on your profile. So instead of having to find a member through a past event they are already listed on your profile page. It can work like Facebook friends, were you need to approve the friend request. But having the friends tab will allow you to skip finding a friend through a past event, because they are saved to your profile. Also this way you can start sharing events directly on meet up and look up their friends and other events that may seem interesting to you.
It took several months to find my group. Why do you offer groups with one participant? Why do you "show" groups where ppl don't share commonality with me? I had to really search and I hit upon senior GF. Every one is my age some have kids or grandchildren and some don't. We all seem to be chatty and friendly and that's great. Today we converged on a primarily young persons coffee shop and boy we swept the place! Nobody would think eight sixty something ladies could literally take over the coffee shop but we did. The other things I attended were Christmas dinner with five ladies and a Christmas concert and cookie exchange which were awesome events. I'm going to stay here with this group since I have already invested eight weeks. I love not paying dues, the younger group whom dissed me did collect dues and I'm not the least bit upset about that.
Decent app and nice to have on iPhone
I appreciate that Meet-up has an app at all, given that much of their service is free to the users. It works well -- I'm a group administrator and can always find what I need to do, even if it takes a bit of searching. I like the ability to schedule an event from my phone and to upload photos (though it would be nice to select a group of pictures at once rather than one at a time).
The calendar function is great for Mac users -- when the announcement goes out, it includes a calendar icon to upload. This morning, the feature froze my calendar, but on reboot, the event was in there, so no big deal.
Some improvements may be needed, but overall, this is a nice app that enhances your ability as a group organizer to do your job. So, let's give a nod to the developer team and give them the opportunity to continue forward!
