It just feels wrong
I tried Normal and Fast mode for the framerate, but it just feels laggy. Megaman doesn't move the way you would expect. It's also really hard to jump and shoot at the same time. This game will need a major update to be playable.
Almost as bad as Mega Man X mobile
The controls can use work, and the frame rate is unplayable for a game of this difficulty. worse 2 dollars i have ever spent on an app.
Mega Man 2 is almost 30 years old. iOS is about a decade old. In all that time, couldn't Capcom do better? This release is clearly an inferior port. The game is choppy and buggy. It is a dishonor to the company, a blight in the history of gaming.
I picked the Metal Man stage. Right away, I knew the negative reviews were correct. I couldn't understand how this got past testing. The frame rate was terrible. The music sounded like I remembered, so I kept playing. What a disgrace. The drill bits weren't layered. They just appeared right above the platforms – not underneath like it's supposed to. This is basic stuff, basic development, basic testing.
My iPad Air 2 is roughly 1000 times powerful than a Nintendo Entertainment System. The game should not play so poorly.
I pressed on and I managed to beat Metal Man. It wasn't easy, as tapping flat glass is not the same as using a controller.
Even with the issues, perhaps the game was still playable? Nope, not really. I picked the Wood Man level next. I couldn't even make Mega Man climb down the ladder. This is the most basic of testing. It seems like playing through the game just once would reveal that problem.
I admit, I still had fun, if only to laugh at how terrible this game is. Capcom, what happened? This is really shoddy work. I thought you were better than this.
What's truly disappointing is that there's so much potential here. The quick switching of weapons and auto fire can make the game less tedious than the original. This could have been a great port. Mega Man 2 is a classic. Having the game on my iPad and iPhone could have been cool. (Boss Rush is fun though.)
So, instead of demanding a refund from Apple, I can wait and see. Maybe Capcom will redeem themselves. There have been a few updates. Maybe Capcom will get it together. Maybe they'll fix the game. I don't know if they will, but they really should. A game this bad hurts their brand.
It is possible to make a good port on iOS. Sonic The Hedgehog is an excellent example of how this should be done.
