Robert Fripp, King Crimson, September 2014 : "We no longer take mellotrons on the road. Instead we take this iPad app"
Paul Nagle, Sound On Sound Magazine, February 2014 :
"An easy one to sum up, M3000 is an excellent achievement that ably demonstrates how far the iPad has come in a few short years. I'd take it over the mellotrons in my once-revered Emu Vintage Pro or my Roland JV2080 Vintage board any day. Highly Recommended."
2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the shipment of the first production mellotron from Streetly Electronics' factory in Birmingham, UK.
To celebrate this historic occasion we are proud to present the 50th Anniversary Edition of Mellotronics M3000, an authentic replication of the legendary M400 tape replay instrument, packed with awesome additional features.
16 voices in total, 35 chromatic 8 second tapes per voice, almost 200MBytes of samples
All samples are original MKI, MKII and M400 voices from the production tape library of Streetly Electronics
3 new unlooped voices - MKII Vibes, Rhodes and Piano
3 looping modes - unlooped (maximum authenticity), 5s loops (maximum playability) and 3s loops (very high fidelity, minimum memory footprint)
Looped modes support 4 simultaneous voices - A/B/C continuous blend plus additional D voice on chord pads
32 voicebanks each with 12 programmable chord pads
Core MIDI support for class-compliant USB interfaces
MIDI responds on all channels to : keys (5 octave response from 3 octaves of samples), pitch wheel, mod wheel (for A/B/C continuous blend), master volume, program change for Voicebank selection. M3000 Tone control may be programmed to any free controller. MIDI notes 1-12 trigger the chord pads.
New synthesis engine with 44.1kHz playback supports mix of looped and unlooped sounds - e.g infinite violins plus decaying piano
Variable 'Tape inching' for authentic factory-style calibration of note attack
Built-in stereoizing reverb engine
Tone control matched to M4000 analog tone
Hypnotic 'Oscillotron' waveform display, in soothing chill-out colour palette

Ratings and Reviews
Sounds great but runs sluggish
I want to love this app, it emulates the mellotron sound perfectly, but runs very sluggish on my brand new iPad Pro with iOS 10.2, especially when using pad mode (which is my favorite feature). Often the record, clear and / or pad buttons get stuck and you have to restart the app.
Could be great... But it's not.
As other reviewers having pointed out, this app is in dire need of an update. While the sounds are great, the interface is horribly clunky and it's lacking a lot of the functionality (particularly MIDI) that we've come to take for granted in with the current generation of music creation apps. In essence, what the developers have done is dangled some wonderful samples in front of us, but kept them functionally out of reach for any one interested in more than just messing around.
There's no doubt that this could easily by a 5 star app if it got an update, but I'm not holding my breath: at present it's been nearly 3 years since the app went live, and we're still on version 1.0. The developers have either taken a very long vacation or have abandoned the project altogether. If the latter is the case, it's a terrible pity: few apps have so much squandered potential.
The idea of this is good enough for 4 stars...
... but I'm interested in doing serious performing and recording with it, and, after a lot of experimenting, it seems impossible to finesse the tuning. The knob graphic that you are meant to swipe -- either clockwise or counter-clockwise -- snaps to a setting that is either too far right or too far left. The default 12:00 o'clock setting seems is naturally low across all the sounds... which doesn't seem to make sense. And the knob is not letting me get right in the middle to tune it properly. ( I am in the U.S., so whatever tuning is the standard U.S. tuning is what I'm working with...) If the developer is reading this can you please update the app and augment the tuning commands to allow for better fine-tuning?
