AWARDED MACWORLD 'MAC GEM' 2013 - The Best Memory Cleaning App

Memory Clean is the ultimate app for optimizing your Mac's memory and is best used after you have finished using a memory (RAM) intensive app or game.

With the slickest interface and user experience, Memory Clean stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Note: Memory Clean works by purging the Mac's inactive memory and is best used when you close an intensive app that you do not plan to use again quickly within a few hours. During the cleaning process, older Macs may slow down until the cleaning is complete.

Update: One of the most useful apps to improve Mac’s performance

First, I should let you know that I’m getting addicted to FIPLAB apps. They provide great utilities that make your Mac run better. Memory Clean is a handy little app that monitors your computer’s RAM or Memory. (Note, this is not a Disk cleaner, though FIPLAB has that covered too). Memroy Clean does exactly what it says, it frees up RAM in a matter of seconds. It’s very easy to use, with a nice GUI. I tested the app on my MacBook Pro with SSD. I thought I was doing a good job of deleting unused Apps - man was I wrong! I was shocked to find I only had 10% of 8 GB free. With a slight hesitation, I activated the app, and like magic, within seconds went up to 35% free! Next I’ll use it on my iMac, which has reaaly slowed down. Memory Clean is quite amazing.

UPDATE: It works very well, and I upgraded to Extreme Clean. Wow! I started with 2% free out of 8GB RAM. Then ran regular Memeory Clean and 23% free. More amazing is what happened when I ran Extreme Clean - free RAM went up 43%.!!! Under perferences you can set Memory Clean to operate automatically at limits you designate. That makes the app even better than my initial review.

Free version vs In-App Extreme Clean

Have used the free version for years on my Macbook Pro. I upgraded this to 16GB, and even though I’m not a big multi-tasker or gamer, I often found I was getting down to 2-4GB free when using multiple desktops. The free version would nicely add sometimes 2GB to available RAM. It would automatically clean once in awhile, but I found myself manually cleaning several times daily. I have just purchased a Mac Mini as ‘backup’ to the MBP, and the Mini is limited to 8GB of RAM. So, I continued to run the free version quite often because my available RAM was usually < 4GB. I wasn’t really happy with the idea that I would have to turn off all other apps when running Final Cut Pro because of the RAM. After reading the help information on Fiblabs site about extreme clean, I purchased it. $4.99 seemed like a good investment if it would find an additional 1GB of memory. The first time I ran it it found an extra 1.3 GB of memory, a significant improvement when my max is 8, and actually closer to 5 given I am running El Capitan. That is a significant improvement for $4.99.

Freedom…from worry.

I’ll be honest, I have a lot of memory installed so I don’t really worry too much about crashing even though I have a tendancy to not close apps much. Hitting CMD+TAB usually results in seeing an only slightly smaller version of my dock running across my screen. If you have less memory installed than you’d like this app is great for keeping things in order and your machine happy as it won’t get bottle-necked and therefore causing you all kinds of performance issues. It’s nice to know which programs are stealing the show, so to speak, and I can easily identify the memory hog and rectify it quickly.
It’s a great app and one that I keep in the startup lineup so that it/s runing automatically during boot up.
It’s one of the good ones to have running on any mac all the time!
