MemoryFreer does just what it says - free up memory, especially the inactive memory that occupies the precious RAM on your computer. It greatly improves the performance of your memory-hungry applications such as Photoshop, Safari/Firefox, Office, iWork, Parallel/VMware, etc.

Just click "Free Memory" button and watch the magic work! In some occasion you may need to run it a few times to shrink inactive memory to minimal.

MemoryFreer can also serve as a memory usage monitor, with real-time usage shown as a pie chart on menubar.

The best app you never knew you needed

I agree with those who say that you should not need this app but for whatever reason my mac does not do a good job of freeing up memory that is no longer used and as a result it slows down to a crawl. Now that I have this app I can quckly remedy the problem and get back to work without having to close every application and restarting.

Now that I have been using the app for about year the only feature I wish it had was automatically freeing memory at a specific time, for me I would have it run at 4:00 in the morning before I started using the machine for the day, that way I would always start the day with memory optimized. Other reviewers have stated that OSX should do this automatically but it is my experience (and from the reviews the experience of many others) that my machine will slow to a crawl or even become non-responsive and OSX still does not free unused memory.

This is a must have app especially for those with limited memory, but even thouse of us who have lots of memory will in my experience eventually run out (I had 12Meg and just upgraded to 16Meg), it just takes a little longer for the problem to surface.

A

OSX is a great OS however with today's systems, memory is an assumed commodity. In order to get a program you recently used to jump right back into action it sits in inactive memory just waiting for you to go "oh yea I forgot to do something…" You clikc the program again and "BAM" there it is again almost instantly. The problem with the way it is implemented that valuable memory can be sitting there for quite awhile until it's taken over by other programs. I won't say your system is starved but if your running a stock configuration with no memory upgrade it can impede overall performance temporarily. MemoryFreer lets you command when the memory is released for other programs to use. It also lets you clear out less than compliant programs that seem to hang onto it until you reboot. At 3.99 it's a must have for those running more intensive programs like FCPX or Logic that use everything you have. If you can snag it for less grab it! It can save a reboot when your systems just seems to crawl and you're not sure why. If half your memory is sitting in inactive with nothing running then it's time to clear it out.

Hope this helps - it's working great for me!

Very helpful, glad I got it

I'm running Parallels Desktop with Windows XP on my iMac running Mountain Lion (with 8MG memory), because I didn't want to give up my PC-based Mailwasher program and Quicken financial applications. Everything was fine until I bought and installed Kapersky anti-virus, which was recommended by Apple. Suddenly, the spinning rainbow wheel of death was my constant companion.

Thank goodness I found this app. It's fascinating to watch the memory change as things open or close, and it's annoying to have to wait a minute while memory is freed up, but that's so much better than sitting while the rainbow wheels comes and goes when you're trying to do something. It's fantastic to see when you're in trouble, and you can fix it before the spinning rainbow wheels start.

I'm purchasing an additional 8Mg of memory to give me a long-term solution, but am still very happy to have this app and will continue to use it even after adding additional memory. Does what it says, well worth it.
