MemryStax creates classic handwritten, two-sided index cards for the iPad. This app allows learners of all ages to quickly create, sort and review any kind of information using their own handwriting.

Educational research has proven that handwritten notes help with memory and knowledge retention. The same applies to flash cards and notecards. Writing out terms, symbols, definitions (rather than typing or reviewing preprinted materials), improves the learning experience.

Working on vocabulary for instance? Start a MemryStax collection for your word list. Write the term on one side, double-tap with your finger to flip the card over and write the definition on the reverse (just like you would do with a paper notecard). Write out as many cards as you need, and then use the Review tab to flip through the collection until all the terms are thoroughly understood and remembered. The same can be done with symbols, equations, pictures, whatever you can write or draw in the available space.

Unlike physical notecards, MemryStax collections cannot get lost or damaged. In addition, MemryStax enhances the flash card experience with quick shuffle, and mixed flip (showing a random mixture of fronts and backs) which makes the review process more varied and engaging, compared with physical card stacks.

To help get you started, take a look at the annotated "how-to" screen shots here: http://www.memrystax.com/how-to.html

Note: We recommend using the Apple Pencil and iPad Pro with MemryStax, because these provide a more precise and consistent writing experience when compared with a soft-tipped (capacitative) stylus. But you may use MemryStax on any iPad.

Ratings and Reviews

I’m not sure where all these great reviews come from...

This app is horrible. You can’t make a real notecard (front and back) without PAYING EXTRA for a template that has a backside? That’s ridiculous. There are no controls over Pencil tip weight or color or anything. The icons have no labels...don’t click the bottom icon while working on a notecard, it’ll erase everything (because a squeegee cleaning a window icon totally makes sense in regard to a notecard). You can’t sort the cards into stacks based on what you’ve learned. Literally all you can do is write on a white box and save it. This app is pointless.

Amazing except for one thing

Don’t have the button to delete the current notecard you are writing on right beside the button to create a new notecard. I have accidentally deleted a notecard i was working on at length multiple times. Multiple times I have thought about uninstalling this app because of this issue.

PLEASE move the button to delete the current notecard somewhere else or add a prompt like “are you sure”.

If this is addressed then I will give it 5 stars

An excellent tool for students and learners of all ages.

While digital flashcards are not only a brilliant and an effective way of studying, the option to handwrite my notes makes it even easier for me to remember information (and add doodles or other shorthand notes that you can't type on a computer). Also, as a college student, any way of cutting down on what I have to carry around during the day is a plus. haha.
