Ads in Paid Vetsion

I purchased this app a year or two ago (cost exceeded $15-20 but I don’t recall how much I paid) and for longest time there were just small ads on the bottom. Lately not only are there small ads but annoying pop-up ads! I looked online and in App Store to see why I was getting pop-ups only to discover that now I apparently have to pay an additional $1.99 a year to avoid ads. What a ripoff. I would never had paid for their app had I known they were going to dump ads on me later on. I think Apple should have rules against this. I already paid for an ad-free version.

Update: I researched my old Apple purchases and discovered that Apple charged my credit card for purchasing the paid version but it’s Buy link was for this “free” version. I’ve notified the developer twice through the app feedback function with details and request to get the paid version that Apple should have given me but the developer has never gotten back to me. I wish I had discovered that Apple had given me the free version but it wasn’t as obvious in 2016 that the free one had ads as they were small type links on bottom screen. Now the ads are annoying pop-ups without any close X boxes that can only b eliminated by closing the entire app and reopening it. I’m leery of buying any other paid apps from Apple after getting charged for them and getting free ones instead. With the developer not being responsive to my feedback contacts to them, I’m out of luck.

Superb App, but Missing One Feature

Love the new cleaner, clutter free interface and design. More importantly, they’ve thankfully made it easier and seamless to add the word of the day to the user’s favorites list. This is a welcome convenience that was long overdue.

Overall, the app works very well, and the yearly $1.99 fee to remove ads is definitely worth it. The one feature I’d like to see added is the ability for users to add notes to each of our favorite words on our customized list. I’d like to be able to notate how I heard a word for the first time and in what context I heard it. This would help users retain the definitions of unfamiliar words that they looked up on their own, since we’d be able to constantly see our own notes referencing the word in personalized context. Also, would love it if the app engineers could make the clock timer 15 seconds for all the weekly vocabulary challenges, instead of the current 10 seconds on some games.

Other than that, the app is wonderful and I access it every day via the app’s widget. Lastly, honorable mention must go to Merriam Webster’s account on Twitter. The daily dose of smart vocabulary insights presented with biting wit, harmless shade, and droll sarcasm is the best. Keep ‘em coming.

I can finally use a word in MY PERSONAL VOCABULARY

I love using this app...I always need a dictionary to look up descriptions...a small amount of big words are not used in MY dictionary due to my uncertainty of the correct use or meaning...there are of course many more uses of this app, but what I use it for, is to build my vocabulary...AND LEARN...every time I look up a word in this dictionary, I cant seem to do under 10 to where each word takes me...once the word is opened, you can tap on any number of other words in describing that such doing this, I am learning their description, their origins, their uses and their most amazing history in some cases...I love this app...the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because if u misspell the word in the end, you don’t get anymore options for the word your looking for and/or if you use the wrong vowel and can’t figure it out, it’s a bust...if the can find a way to give you options of different ways to spelling what u might be looking for, then you’d get 5 ⭐️!, BUT GREAT APPLICATION AND DICTIONARY...IVE ALWAYS LOVED WEBSTERS DICTIONARIES!...thank you AmyB
