Merriam-Webster Dictionary for Apple Watch is here!
This edition of America's most useful and respected dictionary and thesaurus features premium content and no ads, and introduces an Apple Watch extension that includes a Word of the Day glance, voice search right at your wrist, the ability to save words to your Favorites directly from the watch, and of course uses Continuity for a seamless Handoff to your iPhone or Mac to see more in-depth content, hear audio pronunciations, etc.
Selected as a "Best New App" by iTunes.
The app has been fully redesigned for iOS 8 to make it even more enjoyable to use.
In addition to all the definitions from Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, and all the synonyms and antonyms from Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Thesaurus, the app offers voice search – to let you look up a word without having to spell it – example sentences, Quick Definitions, Word of the Day, Favorites, and more.
It’s a great tool for reference, education, and vocabulary building.
The premium content includes over 1000 graphical illustrations, and over 20,000 additional entries covering people, places, and foreign terms.
No internet connection is required to view the definitions or thesaurus (although you do need a connection to view illustrations, hear audio pronunciations, and use voice search).

User interface improvements and bug fixes
A well-made dictionary/thesaurus app
Everything about this dictionary is user-friendly. The "dictionary-thesaurus" button at the bottom of most pages is one of several noteworthy facets of this application; another being the "favorite" button, which allows users to quickly access words for reviewing; word origins are often given at the end of a definition, but more would make this app even better!; concise summaries of the subtle differences and/or best use of synonymous words is often given after a word's definition (or you are easily redirected to that page), which is great when clarity is needed.
Everything about this app is great. The only negative thing I have come across is the horse illustration, which is labeled incorrectly.
Fix one thing, something else stops working.
So here is an updated review to the updated app. It works pretty much the same as before. Optimization for iPhone 6 is nice.
But with the update, the word of the day no longer updates in the widget unless you open the app up. And that is with background app usage turned on.
Also, still no ability to star the word of the day. If you want to star it, you have to type the word of the day in and then star it after selecting it from the results page. This makes no sense to me.
The updates seem to be few and far between with this app and technical support is pretty much slim to none. I wonder how much MW actually cares about this product.
Why Do I Need to Buy This Twice for My iPad & iPhone??
I just payed $3.99 (+tax) for the iPhone (ad-free) version of this app and I expected to use it on my iPad as well. Unfortunately, the iPhone ad-free version isn't scaled to the resolution of my iPad (even though other developers offer duel iPhone/iPad resolution compatibility with their apps). I don't see why I should have to pay an additonal $3.99 to buy the iPad version of this app in order to clear the ads. This was very inconvenient and I thought Marriam-Webster to be far more professional than this.
