Slow and clunky, with bugs

Slow, clunky, and after a while you really start to get annoyed with this app. I used OneNote for the longest time on my computer, so I was excited when they made an app. I use OneNote for quick and simple note-taking, usually just for jotting down ideas. But for that, this app fails. It always takes several seconds to open, in which it shows you the purple landing page. Often I wonder if it's going to open at all. Switching pages takes time as well, and there's these weird bugs where the page won't load correctly and will just look weird. There's also a personal annoyance for me that you can't switch off Auto-Capitalisation. It's already off in my iOS settings, but OneNote overrides it, and that's annoying. Finally, every time you exit the app, let's say to go to another app that you were using, OneNote will close the keyboard automatically. I often switch back and forth between two apps and that is really annoying to me. I know all of the above sounds like petty things, but after using this app for a long time, I have decided to move away from it to something like the in-built iOS Notes app simply because it's faster and it doesn't have any of the annoyances of the above.

Most useful note keeping for me

It has features that help me keep track of the mess in my brain. For work, I like to have a tab for work accomplishments, and then I create a page for each work week underneath. I can make pages subset to others, so I can arrange work weeks by year, etc, and then collapse them so I don’t have to look at tons of pages on the side panel. The organizational style is pretty intuitive for my needs, and it helps me quickly recall details about things that might have happened weeks before.

I like the features. I can insert or create page templates. I can paste in pictures and drag them around, or use any kind of text. I can draw and mark up notes. I’ve also used this across desktop and mobile and it is handy to switch quickly from platform to platform. On top of this, I’ve used this with teams of people to keep track of tasks, so we can all know what’s going on with each other.

I like to keep tabs for training notes/reference, for meeting notes, etc.

I also keep a separate OneNote notebook if I have a personal project (like a D&D game).

Nearly constant sync issues

The iPad app is getting less usable. Nearly constant error messages saying “Couldn’t Sync”. No other indicator of what the problem could be. Almost as frequently, the app requires me to sign in to sync, at which time it sometimes syncs, and sometimes doesn’t. No idea why I can use it one minute, and the next minute I have to sign in again. Excel and Word work fine.

I’ve uninstalled the OneNote app a number of times, thinking a fresh install will help. No dice. The iPhone app, on the other hand, works much better, and the Mac app seems to work fine. I have a lot of notebooks and a lot of information and pdf files in them. I’m tempted to think it’s too much data for OneNote to process, but the iPhone app works, and it’s the same data.

I keep hoping each update will fix the issue but it has not been fixed so far.
