Very good companion to the Desktop version
As many reviews have noted, the iPad version is not a complete substitute to the Desktop version -- many features and content types are missing and you simply can't do everything to create a robust presentation. However, it is a very good companion to the Desktop version, allowing almost perfect reproduction of slideshow viewing (much better than any other app) and enough editing tools to refine existing presentations or start outlines of new ones.
There are lots of little features that could use improving, though for me the #1 item is the ability to edit the style template. If you want to standardize on a different font or colors from the existing templates (or even use a work template), PowerPoint really, really wants to revert to its defaults. It's pretty annoying to have to edit, re-edit, and re-choose fonts.
Overall, not much to complain about, it's one of the best translations for an Office companion app. I think complaining about whether you can use your watch to advance slides or why it isn't perfect for presenting to a large audience is just silly... It's an App, folks.
Eating my data plan
I realize this isn't the best forum for this...but Microsoft has to issue a patch for this or I can't use powerpoint. The app forces iPad Pro users to keep cellular data on at all times so that office 365 can verify my subscription. I have about 8 GB worth of presentations that i'm working on that are constantly updating in the background. My options are; use airplane mode or delete the app. I am working on these a lot and each time the iPad Pro touches the internet via LTE it updates these files. On the iPhone and other iPads users can toggle cellular data on and off but on iPad Pro, this option is disabled for Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Please fix or I can't use this. (I would have submitted this through another channel but after being on the phone with Microsoft support for 20 minutes with no email and no resolution I gave up.)
Great App. Having remote to advance slides would be great!
I am a professor and have some fairly complicated animations on Powerpoint. Opening them in Keynote changes many of these complicated animations so I am ecstatic to have Powerpoint on the iPad. Even my most complicated animations work perfectly. The major issues I have before calling it the perfect app is that as far as I can tell there is no way to advance slides on my iPad using a remote (like my phone). The other thing is the ability to edit animations (i.e. change order of animations)
