Needlessly complicated, doesn’t work half the time, spelling errors? Seriously?

First off, if this is official from Microsoft then shame on them for zero attention to detail. The very first popup I get is “What’s New in Version 8.0.12: Fixed full screen issues on Yosemity”. What is a Yosemity? Even spell check would have caught that. But enough nit picking.

This is infinitely times more complicated than RDP in Windows. Why? Why must I add an entry with a username/password into a managed list before I can connect to it? Why can’t I just paste an IP or hostname and hit connect like the original RDP in Windows? If I must preconfigure everything, at least let me set a configuration for everything to default to, but Remote Desktop for Mac insists that I create a new entry and save it into my list even if I will never connect to it again.

That’s okay, as long as it does its job, except that it doesn’t. 1/3 of the time it won’t connect, of the times that it does, half the time it freezes and I end up closing it and re-connecting. Tried it at home, tried it at work on an enterprise network and was convinced it was my Mac as something official from Microsoft wouldn’t ever be this unstable. So I arranged a replacement MacBook Pro with the inventory at work, still no dice.

It says Updated December 10, 2014. Please update it again, it needs a lot of work.

Works Where Old RDP

I have Microsoft Office 2011 for mac which comes with Remote Desktop Connection. It has never allowed me to connect to my work windows computer (or any windows computer). Microsoft Remote Desktop works well, runs smoothly and makes working from home a breeze. I have only connected to my windows Professional 7 work computer, and my wifes windows 8 laptop (for testing purposes only). there was no difference between either operating system. Both ran well. I love it when an aplication does what it says it was supposed to do, simply and quickly; This app does just that!

Finally, an RDP client that works for me

I've been struggling with the old Microsoft RDP client for years. It crashed all the time, and even the crash reporting app crashed. What a mess. I've tried CORD, FreeRDP, and quite a few paid apps. They all had awful UI and were unreliable in the connections.

Finally, I found this App Store version of Microsoft's app, and so far, it's been great. Connections are stable, and restore properly after I reopen my laptop. It's efficient with resources, and relatively fast on my LAN. The UI is a huge improvement, too. I'm really happy with this client so far. Thank you, Microsoft.
