What's New in Version 1.15
•Stabilization and performance updates.
Other recent improvements are:
•Multitasking (requires iOS 9): get tasks done faster by running Word for iPad side by side with other apps. For example, copy numbers or a chart from Excel into Word, or write down some meeting notes in Word while you’re reviewing the slides in PowerPoint.
•Keyboard shortcuts (requires iOS 9): no need to learn keyboard shortcuts by heart. Just tap the Command key on your external keyboard to get an overview of all shortcuts.
•Mirrored User Interface in Arabic and Hebrew (requires iOS 9): Word now has a mirrored UI when the device language is set to Arabic or Hebrew.
•Available in Vietnamese.
•Change case: quickly change selected text to uppercase, lowercase, sentence case and more.
•Send with Outlook: send a document as an Outlook email attachment and return to Word.
•Bi-directional and complex script languages: now supports bi-directional text editing and complex script for Arabic, Hebrew and Thai.
•View protected documents: open and view documents that have access permissions applied to them.
•Easier sharing: invite people to edit a document and grant them permissions, all from within the app.
•Integration with Outlook: edit a document attached to an Outlook email message. When you’ve finished, the updated document will be attached to a new email message, ready to send.
•New storage options: open, edit and save your work to iCloud and other online storage services. (requires iOS 8)
•New templates: create great looking Word documents more quickly by using one of the new templates.
•Word Add-ins: add functionality to Word that enhances your documents and helps increase your productivity. (only on iPad, requires iOS 8.2 or newer)
Inflexible at times, but it gets the job done.
The iPad version of Word has come in handy several times when computer labs around the campus were full or I needed to write outlines and first drafts when away from my Mac at home or any campus computers. It's also better than MS Word 2011 on my Mac regarding headers/footers and automatic indents and line spacing when I'm trying to separate paragraphs.
One issue that apparently came about within the last few updates: when sharing, it wouldn't allow for multiple third-party cloud services; once I share a copy of my work to OneDrive the program won't let me share it again to Dropbox or other third-parties. Hopefully this can be resolved in a future update.
If you have a campus license, MS will allow you to DL the iPad version for free (don't know whether or not this applies to iPad Pro as I have the iPad mini). I HIGHLY recommend a Logitech bluetooth keyboard when using the software though, especially for owners of any iPad mini models (myself included).
For an iPad app it's great
This works like I need it to on the iPad. I use it in conjunction with One Drive and or Drop Box and it works. Some comments about recent docs not updating across computers seem to be correct, but that's no big deal. Go to the doc source and load it, next.
I never expect local docs to update correctly and I'll give iTunes the finger for being a PIA for that issue. Give us access to the file structure and those kinds of complaints will stop.
Sorry, this is a discussion about Word. It works, it edits and some times it's way too easy to out run it typing on an iPad but it works, it edits, it saves. I'm good with it.
One more iOS nag...give us a keyboard we can move the cursor with if you ever want people to take this thing seriously for productivity. As it is this is a first class scratch pad.
Love the app it has already become very useful to me as I use it daily for my college classes. Are you still have to try to convert the documents that I saved in pages over to word this caused several issues obviously with the formatting now that I have the word app this is no longer a problem and I am loving every minute that Apple has saved me! I am a very busy person, this app makes it very convenient for me not to have to pull out my MacBook Pro which is quite larger then my Apple iPhone 6 Plus and still be able to complete necessary tasks including several big case briefs and still share documents with my family. They have created an excellent idea and upgrade. Respectfully,
you're loyal consumer.
