MIDI Guitar is the World’s first app to transcribe guitar playing into MIDI in real-time, with latency and accuracy comparable to expensive and inconvenient hardware MIDI guitar solutions.

MIDI guitar is 8 years under development(!) and based upon new advanced in polyphonic pitch detection and –prediction technology that can accurately recognize guitar playing and -articulation with very low latency and without spurious hits. The technology has been tested by thousands of beta testers.

MIDI Guitar use Virtual MIDI to drive other iOS synth apps or Garageband. It can also use WIFI-MIDI to communicate with Mac or PC digital audio workstations in a frictionless setup. Cable-based MIDI to control hardware synths or connect to DAWs with lowest possible latency.

In order to use MIDI Guitar you need a iPhone 5, iPad 4, iPod 6 or later. You also need a guitar interface for best results. We recommend a digital interface (using the lightning connector) over analog (via headphone jack), preferably with input gain control. Using an acoustic guitar with the built in microphone works for some purposes but is not optimal.

The free version will interrupt now and then, asking you to buy an in-app purchase. There are two in-app purchases. The first one gives you the full guitar rig and unlocks everything in the app EXCEPT the possibility to play external synths. For that you need the second in-app purchase, in addition.

Customer Reviews

Almost there!

I love plugging my iRig HD into my iPhone 6s and using midi guitar to trigger Sample tank, Sound canvas, Thumb jam and Garage band. I'm amazed with the tracking and the settings you can adjust such as velocity and pitch that allow for musical performances. Single lines and chords track very well although another review mentioned the issue of not being able to detect and sustain more than 4 pitches simultaneous and I have noticed issues along these lines. The one definite draw back I've noticed is it's inability to sustain minor 2nd intervals reliably whether embedded within a larger chord form or simply the interval it self. Once this has been addressed and resolved I'll see no reason to use any other hardware product. In the meantime it sure is fun to use and is a very inspirational tool.

Best App I've Ever Purchased

I was skeptical as I've experienced a lot of apps and software which claim to do this but don't quite manage to pull it off, due to latency or poor interpretation etc. With a cheap iRig2 I'm getting latency of 256 (might be able to go lower) with no problems, using a classical guitar, and I'm very excited about controlling my desktop daw pianos and strings. Thanks for this, it's a gift to recording guitar players.

Works with iPad and iPhone

I know, obviously some got it to work. I did not at first. I had to to advanced on the phone to set the output.
Now it's just cool. I don't really know how to use this very well with SampleTank yet but it sounds great without the knowledge. I can play cello and all kinds of stuff. Now I got it to work with the phone it sounds better. I'm just playing.
