I've been using the app for almost a year now. In that time I have only encountered a problem once. And although it make me have a little anxiety at the cashier, it was remedied quickly. I would highly recommend it, but keep in mind that if you are in a store and your signal is not strong it will lag until the eCard transaction is complete. I wish I knew about this app sooner. The only grips I have are not being able to sort the merchant list by the number of miles, add a nifty badge to the new ones, or get notifications when a merchant is added or dropped. Maybe the developer can add the Mileage Plus Dining too. I hate paying with a credit card when I go out to eat and we all know of people in the restaurant business that are not the best examples of honesty that could try to use your card way after the fact. Fraud is VERY real, VERY scary, and VERY rampant these days. I would much rather go to a participating restaurant of Mileage Plus Dining and pay with an eCard I generate on my own, think about this United.

But NEW UNITED MEMBERS BE WARNED!!!
My fiancé created a United account so he could start using and earning miles. I have been flying United forever so it was easy for me to start earning miles. For him, it was and still is a nightmare. He can’t get it to work. No matter how many times he has deleted and re-downloaded the app and re-enter his card info, it doesn’t work. He contacted customer service multiple times. Finally they responded and said new user need to wait at least 2 weeks to use before making purchases. Are you kidding me?! That is ridiculous. And it tools us multiple emails for a real human to actually respond. And then get this...it stopped working for me! It only always me to make purchases from my credit card and not my bank card even though I had already used that particular card.
Like I said it’s a great concept but for existing members. Having someone wait 2 weeks is a slap in the face. Oh and their customer service is horrible! If this issue for my fiancé is not resolved I will be making phone calls and most likely taking my membership to another airline that has customer service.
Safest way to pay and you get rewarded
Had a small problem with using it at a store but after the cashier understood it was a gift card it was easy. I now make it a point to let them know I have a gift card and they know exactly what to do. Although I have had a problem where phone signal was an issue but I was able to walk to an area where there was a good signal and complete the transaction. The cashier didn't seem to mind and understood I was in a "dead zone" for cell reception. I like this app for several reasons: 1) safe - better to give a gift card than a credit card number 2) rewards - love getting miles for regular expenses. I will go out of my way most times in order to get the extra miles. 3) nearby feature - it is nice especially while traveling or in an area you are unfamiliar with. 4) new merchants - noticed a category which has all the newest merchants handy. It is nice to see the list grow especially with merchants near you!
