Coding made easy for everyone.

Not for beginners

Gabbe go gabbe

I love the idea of this, and wanted to love the app, but I don’t. It is not free, you have to subscribe to go beyond the most basic lesson, and the yearly subscription is $50. This is my assessment after a few days:
It might be good for intermediate learners looking to practice or refresh existing skills, but it is definitely not for beginners. There isn’t enough introduction and repetition of terms, insufficient opportunity to practice and self test, go back and rework mistakes - which is how learners information at a deep level. Instead, it allows you to click through to the next level. The sassy comments for wrong answers are funny, but again, lacking in clear instruction and explanation for beginners. It seems unlikely that it was user tested by beginners. Surprising that the rating is as high as it is. A longer trial period would have allowed an opportunity to see if it was appropriate for someone at my level or not. I believe in supporting a good app and the people who develop it. The short trial time, high price and
promised learning, at this point, appear poorly thought out at best, and deceptive and greedy at worst. I plan to continue working with the app for a while longer. If the experience improves, I’ll revise my review.

Buggy lessons and yearly subscriptions

es206

In c# ”main and system” lesson 2, there are no options, and an error message is displayed when you hit solve. After that you can’t move on to the next lesson. This is on the latest iPad Pro.

Also some c# lessons write incorrect output. I filed reports for those. You also suddenly use the “this” keyword in a class lesson without even mentioning it (it’s kind of important). The app is well designed, but some of the lessons could use a good editing pass.

In addition, the subscription is priced as if you would study every programming language in creation. Generally people only need a few and there really isn’t enough content in any single language that you cover to justify mandatory 1 year/ $50 subscriptions. Maybe the idea is to dip your toes into everything, but I really think 3 month subscriptions make more sense if you have faith that your product and future content can retain customers.

Developer Response

We are already aware of the issue regarding the c# course and it will be fixed in the next update. Thank you for your feedback.
