Ratings and Reviews
Great app overall
I would give this app a 4 out of 5 stars. This app was designed appropriately for teens and young adults. The app provides appropriate generalized situations that would cause anxiety for a teen or young adult. This app would benefit a teen that would not like to go to therapy based on the negative stigma still around today. Adolescents are not always the most engaging in therapy. Adolescents are already engaged in social media through their apps on their phone daily. Social media has been negatively correlated with adolescents that express internalizing behaviors of depression and anxiety that are preoccupied with being excluded. During this time in an adolescents’ life, they are in a broad network of forming relationships and discovering new things. For some this can cause some high anxiety for adolescents that fear of rejection. It is convenient for those struggling with anxiety that they can use this app to cope with the symptoms and feelings in certain situations. This app is simple enough to navigate by a range of cognitive and emotional development for adolescents. However, this app could be more engaging by allowing a tracking of situations so teens could identify a pattern. Providing a section for each situation and provide a location. Also, to make the app more personalized to each unique adolescent individual would make the app more engaging to help create coping their anxiety.
Suitable for adolescents with anxiety
Positively, MindShift provides the user with useful information regarding anxiety and ways to cope with easy access and just by looking at the app; it provides supplemental websites that the users can go to if they want additional information; and it offers many different situations that an adolescent or young adult might be going through at their age. Another strength with MindShift is regarding the free aspect of it and that there are no additional fees once the individual is already using the app—the app is free and fully accessible without needing to pay. On the other hand, while the app does provide a wide range of situations that an adolescent or young adult would encounter, there is no option to customize it to situations that males or females would specifically go through. Since MindShift does use very generalizable situations, it also does not take into account different cultural beliefs or values that a user might live with. Another disadvantage to the app is that it is hard for those with hearing/visual impairments to have full access to the content that is provided. All in all the app is shown to be useful and the positives outweigh the negative aspects
I struck gold finding this app. I've been searching for an app that helped prevent and manage anxiety, NOT to induce more stress and anguish, with little or no financial cost. MindShift is like a goldmine of resources with simple exercises one can easily implement into their daily routines to cope with the ups and downs of life's roller coaster ride. It's a treasure trove of easily accessible, sound and practical advice from mental health professionals. It seems like having a therapist on 24-hr duty to help guide me in the way I respond to potential anxiety triggers. What I find truly valuable in this app is the fact that it provides users a platform to express what goes on in the scary recesses of the mind, allowing users to articulate and work through personal issues privately at their own discretion anytime and anywhere.
