Needs better sleep tracking
It's overall a great app, but I wish it would track sleep better. The times you go to sleep and wake up are not accurate. If you wake up in the middle of the night and then go back to sleep the app thinks you started sleeping in the middle of the night, and deletes the first part of your sleeping. I can't imagine it would be too difficult it to figure out that you went back to sleep, abs just show that you were awake for a bit. It would make sense if the app required an hour of obvious awake motion, before it starts tracking you as awake. It should also be able to edit the info after it collects more data. Like when you first wake up, it might think you are still asleep, based on your formula, but if it sees that at that point you are awake for the rest of the day, it should go back and correct the actual time you got up. You could also have the user set a go to bed time and wake up time, so it knows the window that you were trying to sleep and input sleep data within that window. I hope you can make these improvements soon!!
Good for the price. Excellent Value!
A few things to say about the misfit shine and its app. It tracks your sleep, steps, workouts, and your SWIMMING. This is one fitness/sleep tracker that you can leave on 24/7 no matter WHAT. Fitbit and jawbone UP cannot go in the water, just FYI. I've tried the jawbone up. I LOVED the app, but hated the product. Didn't seem to sync when I wanted it to. Main point is, misfit's app is great, but I would really like it to look more like jawbone's. I liked seeing my daily calories and nutrition facts in the way UP presented theirs, as well as the more detailed sleep info.
All in all, the misfit shine was cheaper AND waterproof so I decided it to be the best value fitness tracker available right now. Some competition may be up when the UP3 finally gets shipped out to consumers (it is waterproofed and also tracks your heart rate) although at a lofty price of $180. Over double the price of misfit's shine. I'm excited to see what happens in this market over the next year.
3 week battery life, max
Your mileage may vary, but in three months of relatively sedentary walks with the dog, I've never had the battery in my Shine last longer than three weeks. More exercise = even less battery life, and the only way you know the battery is done is that it won't sync. This always seems to happen just when you're most curious about the data. The iPod Bluetooth connection seems stronger, but having one download on the iPod and the rest of the data on the iPhone isn't satisfying or convenient. Misfit Shine is cool, but ultimately disappointing. Try tracking your exercise with any other pedometer and tracking your sleep with Sleep Meister before deciding to buy a Shine. Remember, it won't look so cool after you've popped it open to change the battery. The metal case is soft and awkward to open, the tool is hard; blunder once and Shine won't be watertight anymore.
