A free, interactive app for teaching Minnesota history for sixth grade brought to you by the Minnesota Historical Society.
This stand-alone Civil War–focused curriculum was created using content from the premier state history textbook Northern Lights: The Stories of Minnesota’s Past, Revised Second Edition (R2E), and reflects the latest sixth grade benchmarks found in the new Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in Social Studies.
Minnesota classroom tested, with enhancements and changes made as a direct result of student and teacher feedback, this app offers fun, engaging content, including:
• Interactive instructor support materials that are cleverly integrated in the app itself—perhaps its most innovative aspect
• a professionally narrated read-along
• interactive maps
• interactive graphs
• interactive timelines
• imbedded video
• high-definition primary source images from the Minnesota Historical Society’s collections—including a full-size bayonet!
A Very Impressive App
I was very impressed with with the wide variety of media used to describe Minnesota's role in the US Civil War. You managed to give a fresh perspective on a major historic event and present it in a personal manner.
The origins of the conflict are so various and complicated; it was a stoke of genius to focus on the issues and events that were most personal to the contemporary residents of our home state.
I was amazed and proud to read how a local church's founding was inspired by the Emancipation Proclamation. It's information like that that makes you feel the hand of history touch our lives in a very vivid way.
I'm proud of the ways that Minnesota citizens contributed to the enhancement of human liberty throughout history and more than a little saddened at how personal selfishness blinded some of our other ancestors. I think this app is an effective reminder of our own responsibilities to our society. Some day *our* descendants will be reading about *us* with either pride at our daring accomplishments or embarrassment at our petty shortsightedness.
Really nice app
I love the interactive features and the hidden teacher information. I wish you would make one for North Carolina history during the civil war. Or convince the NC historical society to do so, but your format is already developed and fantastic.
It's is GREAT! I love the Civil War, and Te stories are really cool. I really liked the maps.
