Mobile Multi Display

The Mobile Multi Display  is a tiling display that consists of multiple iPod or iPhone devices connected via WiFi. Together these devices form a larger display that can be used for slideshows, games and other interactive applications. Our implementation allows for the intuitive setup and calibration of the display and the usage of the display for interactive photo slideshows, a very simple racing game, and a new castle destroying game.

This work was presented at the Eurographics 2010 conference. More information can be found on the project's website.

You need a WiFi network that allows device-to-device communication (in particular UDP-broadcasts), which most home-based WiFi networks allow.

Works good, for a free app

This works pretty well for a free app. We have a few old iPad 1’s and I am trying to setup a little sign/picture slideshow for the lobby of our office to put them to use. Using an iPad 1 as a host you only have three options Start Single Image, Start Race, and Destroy the castle. The later of the two I have no use for but show image would help me out, but the missing option, slideshow, would be most useful. I found out you can set a newer device as the host and setup the iPad 1’s as the clients, and this way I could use the Slideshow functionality from the newer device (iPhone 6 Plus in this case). Once you calibrate where each iPad is, in relation to each other, it started to look pretty nice. It would be great to be able to play a keynote presentation, or have a way for them to move an image from one iPad to another. Overall for a free app this is pretty good, but I would pay for some better functionality, with still keeping the iOS 5.1.1 compatibility. (For reference I used 5 iPad 1’s in a row for the single image and only tested 2 iPad ones with the iPhone 6 Plus on the slide show)
