Description

See photos of wildlife from across the Southwestern US!

Test your identification skills and watch for interesting animal behavior!

US Fish and Wildlife Service Southeast has collected millions of automated photos of wildlife over several decades. Unfortunately, the sheer volume of photos makes it difficult to use the photos effectively for analysis. To be useful for statistical analysis, scientists must know which animals are in which photos. Automated identification of animals is not yet reliable, so we rely on human identification skills, but we don't have the staff to sort all the photos we collect.

That's where Moniker steps in. Moniker allows anyone to sort photos of wildlife from anywhere on the planet. Download a few photos at your house, then look through them on the bus ride to work. You may even see some rare species! With the release of Moniker, we are looking for citizen scientists interested in wildlife. Thank you for your help. We hope you have fun!

Love it, conditionally

This application is a lot of fun for an amateur wildlife biologist like myself! There is just one thing that I think might make the app more user friendly: the background. The stark white makes it very difficult to distinguish contrast in nighttime images. A softer color would make it (literally) easier on the eyes.
Also: I understand that this is probably a very low-budget project, but I'm sure I'm not the only user who might appreciate and benefit from occasional feedback. (Especially if we identify something incorrectly!)
Thanks for this little glimpse into the world of wildlife management!

It's a start!

Now that I have loaded the newest version I was able to get past the initial 15 views and add some real data. The multiple button won't work unless you choose one of the other number options. I got a it 2 saves before it would not save the last 15 I had identified and then it kicked me out. Now I can't get it to open for me. Is there a limit? I love this idea and really want to help out and recommend it to friends. Please keep trying.

I'd like to help but...

There's no species in the drop down menu. Only lists Other, Unknown, Ghost & multiple. Even the options for multiple are only those listed above. Hope this helps. I'm excited about the project!
