"MonoPhix HD for the iPad is the big brother to MonoPhix for the iPhone, and this app demonstrates just what the extra screen real-estate of the iPad can do for an app."

"If you have an iPad and are looking for a great black and white app, then in my opinion, MonoPhix HD is the app."

Shameful HD Version: Missing Features, Old

Buyer beware: MonoPhix "HD" 1.1 (yeah--in quotes) is old and horrifically useless. It is NOT the direct-port HD version of MonoPhix for the iPhone.

Last rev was Sept 2010 and these features differ from the iPhone version:

* Does not filter by color, just desaturates to Grayscale.
* Only allows positive exposure adjustment.
* You can't remove "tape" graphics from your preview image.
* Does not run in background at all--requires a fresh start every time.

Other weak spots:

* Vignette function is inflexible to the point of uselessness. The single Radius control should be broken down into three controls (Amount, Softness, Size). Also, the vignette doesn't zero-out at lowest setting.

* Portrait-orientation only, no rotation.
* Low-res preview.
* Unnecessary confirm dialog on Save requires extra click.

I enjoy experimenting with various apps, and am usually pretty agreeable about losing a buck or two on an app that's not my thing, but this is different. I bought MonoPhix HD right after I got my new iPad 3 thinking it was going to be, well...the MonoPhix HD of MonoPhix. And it's not, and there was no way to find this out without paying for it.

Developer: you need to take this woeful app down til you update it/revise it properly. This is just plain bad business and reflects poorly on your company.

I was able to come up with striking grayscale versions of my color images in literally seconds. Usually, the simple controls are enough! I'm a semi-pro photographer and this app has already become an indispensable part of my kit.

The processing tools freeze and have no effect after a few adjustments. Sad, because when they work they're very interesting.
