"Our students were enthralled by this simple, yet brilliant game – polishing up on their number skills with smiles on their faces!" - Teachers with Apps
The app includes 18 addition levels, with In-App purchase for another addition level and two subtraction and negative levels. (You can also get all levels with the app Motion Math: Hungry Fish Pro.) Hungry Fish features an intuitive way to visualize addition: the bringing together of two objects. Most math worksheets and math games ask "3 + 4 = ?" This cool math game instead challenges players to find, for example, the many different ways to create a sum of 7.

My 3-6 year olds love this!
My son started using this app at around 3 years old and loved it, he's still using it at 5.5 and enjoys it's higher levels. At the beginning, it's great for number recognition then slowly difficulty increases to work on addition and subtraction, and there is a lot of room to learn with the other operations. At 5.5, his math skills are definitely more advanced than his peers in kindergarten, and higher than even those of his cousin who started first grade 5 months ago, and I believe this app contributed to that. We encourage his math skills with other day to day interactions, but this game compliments that and is fun for him.
Good and Bad
I downloaded this app for my fourth graders, but my then 3 year old loves the fish so it has really become his game.
The pros are the overall concept of the game. I really like how it makes the player decompose the number. It reinforces a skill in an enjoyable way.
My biggest cons are 1) often there are no matches for the bubbles and the fish starts to shrink. I understand the idea of shrinking fish if a player isn't making correct matches. However, if the game isn't providing those possible matches, it seems unfair to penalize the player.
2) I don't care for the customization of the fish being a timed situation. Give a player a chance to really try on all the options.
Thinking of the CHILDREN... 😊
Please allow in app purchase for ads to be removed & an on of switch for connection options to social sights in settings would be nice... ??? I'd even pay for the option to have social connects removed.
