What's New in Version 24.2
- Apple Watch optimizations
I've had this app for years like many other reviewers and I've always really liked it. For walking, for hiking, for biking.
What I do not like is the location services setting. You have to allow the app to access your location always or never. I do not like apps that track your location even when you are not using the app. Most apps have the option to allow location sharing "when using the app" which seems much more respectful of the users privacy.
As a result of the MotionX GPS settings I use this app a lot less then I used to because every time I'm not using it I shut down location sharing in the privacy settings which I then have to re-enable when I do want to use the app.
If this one feature were changed I'd definitely rate the app 5 stars.
Amazing functionality and infinitely useful
I don't use this app often, but when I do, I'm amazed by the functionality. I've been on long distance endurance events and used the app to report my team's location on Twitter at regular intervals. I've used it in a pinch when in the woods and needed to know my current whereabouts. I've uploaded tracks from Google Earth which outline property that I wanted to explore. The outline appears as a boundary on the display which easily coordinates with my current position. I could go on and on. The price for the app is a bargain for the functionality. I recommend this without reservation.
I once Loved this app. I used it to record and view all my cycling and hiking treks and it functioned flawlessly. So many great features!
Unfortunately, they introduced a bug a couple years ago which I pointed out to them but they refuse to fix: the auto-pause doesn't work. Tracking is supposed to pause any time it senses a lack of movement (according to the app), but it simply doesn't work unless it senses movement first. So when you start a track it starts tracking time even though you're standing still, putting the phone away and your pack back on, adjusting things, etc. This in turn makes speed readings inaccurate.
