Brand new Flixster app, with refreshed design
Very bad redesign!
The usability of this app just plummeted. You took a really-useful screen that was a list view of current movies out, capable of showing a dozen or more titles at a time, and changed it to a scrolling grid that can show 3 large images plus three more half-pictures on an iPhone 6s. The single comprehensive overview of a movie is gone, split into two tabs (so now instead of information about the movie and tomatomometer scores to help me make my decision, the initial view is ticketing - but since I haven’t made my decision yet, it’s now two taps to get to the same info). The Consensus seems to be gone entirely, and you now only show three reviews by default.
Overall, the app has dropped hard in usability. I’m sure, sitting around a conference room table, the still mock-ups of the new design made pretty pictures. But in terms of actually USING the app, it’s gone in a very bad direction.
Good design is functional as well as attractive. I was able to access and understand more information more quickly with the previous design. I’m not against change, but this new design is more fluff than useful. Very disappointed.
Changes are really bad...
I rarely write reviews, but I had to try to get the message to the developers, the changes in the layout and features of the most recent update are really bad. It's a shame because this was by far the most useful app for finding movie times and seeing what was playing where, but now it's just full of really jarring symbols and very little useful information. I click on the grey circle with a line, and it's not clear what theater that is. It's at the top of the screen? You mean, the half of the title I can see? Or the big "CITY NAME" on the map when looking at theaters, blocking out a third of the view? Yes, I am familiar with the city I am in, thanks. And let's not even get into how big the Ads are now...
Anyway, I used to find this extremely useful, but now it's just annoying, which is a shame.
My Go-to Movie App No Longer
I don't care for this "prettier" look as the need to scroll through listings is now greatly increased. However my biggest gripe is the loss of the separate listing of favorite theaters. In my area I would consider 4-5 local theaters selected as favorites for quick perusal of available movies. Now all you can do is click on the heart symbol to identify it as a favorite (presumably). Little good that does as you still have to scroll the interminably long list of theaters to find the little red heart symbol. On top of that, the app doesn't even list the one theater I go to probably more than 90 percent of the time. I can search for it, but why should I have to continually type in the name when it should show up near the top of the theater listing as it's only three miles away?
