Amazing - Does everything
I mean everything - down to the details.
First, my one suggestion:
Keep the app store up to date! I could download the app from the website but with the app store I get notifications of updates and such. I would rather have a lower version app store edition than a better dmg. Of course, the best would be a higher version app store edition, which is what I'd really like!
Some features I've been longing for an found in this app:
-Increase/Decrease Audio Delay
-Increase/Decrease Subtitle Delay
-Play MKVs natively and add srt files automatically!
A nice bonus is the pinch to zoom feature. Never use it, but it's neat.
A suggestion would be to implement a type of fast-forward similar to what quicktime has (two fingers control scan speed). It's really useful and neat.
The logo is slick, too. I totally recommend this app.
One of the few apps that really make me want to donate, which I probably will.
Best media player for Mac OS hands down
I have been Mac people since 1986. I remember all the struggles to get certain kinds of media to play in a Mac, and it was a real headache. Even today, some media players make you buy the most popular codecs before they will work properly. MPlayerX is an expression of why Macs are Macs - it just works. I'd give this app more than 5 stars if I could. No more REALPlayer, no more WindowsMedia, no more DIVX, and indeed, no more Quicktime Player either. I run _ALL my A/V media through MPlayerX because it just _works. No fuss, no muss, no headaches, no programming scripting or tweaking. No arcane and arbitraty codecs to install or disable or whatever. Install, play media, enjoy. Done!
If you are frustrated with your A/V experience in MacOS, then get MPlayerX and kiss your A/V frustration goodbye!
I tried to play an AVI file on my MacBook Pro running 10.7.3 - nothing ! Preview would play it, but not quicktime - it always asked for a codec update - Divx player is worthless, and did nothing for my codec update n Quicktime. MPEG Streamclip pro did not even recognize it, VLC was the best - it at least recognized it and played it but the audio cut out after 15 seconds. Online it was suggested to install Flip4MAc and Perian, two products with which I have had only limited success - and then in a corner of a thread it was suggested to try this app - Free ? great - DL'ed from app store and bingo the AVI plays without a hiccup. Not sure why it is not more well known, but It's now a standard part of my toolbox !
