Good app & content; one annoyance
MPR News produces great content, and this app makes it easy to access without a radio. Indeed, their journalism isn’t limited to audio. I mostly use this app to *read* news stories of local interest. Photos too.
MPR provides a news service — accessible with this app — that goes above & beyond the apps provided by the local TV news & newspaper companies, and it rivals paywall-based news sites. Oh yeah, and there are NO ADS!
One complaint, though. If I’m listening to something on my iPhone (music, podcast, etc.), and then open this app, whatever I was listening to will stop. Annoying! The designers may have assumed that I came to the app to listen to their content and that I want to stop listening to my own. This would be an incorrect assumption, though. If I want to play content from the app, I’ll tap a play button.
As an aside, if you like this FREE app, I suggest that you show your financial support; become a member of MPR or your local public radio station.
Very limited content
I’m a sustainer & have been a member since my college years in the 1980s. I love the radio content of MPR, but almost every time I want to hear more/read more about a story and the announcer says “find it on the MPR News app,” I cannot find it. Today, again, this was the case with the ‘MPR News Presents’ show of which I missed the last 10 minutes. The app has NO category for ‘MPR News Presents,’ nor any search field to find shows or titles or speakers. This happens all the time. Just use your internet browser to find things. Skip this app.
Lacks basic zoom function!
The app is fine for text stories but lame if there are graphics involved. I have it on an iPhone 6s and there is no pinch to zoom function, nor will the app switch to landscape mode if the phone is turned sideways. A recent article on Twin Cities road closures included an annotated map which I could not even read due to this shortcoming.
