This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.

Muse app is used in conjunction with Muse: The Brain Sensing Headband - available at - make sure your headband is fully charged before first use.

Learn to meditate and improve your meditation practise with Muse: The Brain Sensing Headband. While you meditate Muse uses brain sensing technology to determine whether your mind is calm or active and translates those signals into guiding sounds that you select. Choose from soundscapes that include a beach, rainforest, a desert or even ambient music. When your mind is wandering the sounds intensify and when you're calm you'll hear peaceful sounds.

After your session review your data, set goals and build a deeply rewarding meditation practise.

It Does Indeed Work

The app and the hardware are quite polished and together really do help train and develop your mind for a calm and effective meditation practice. However this does take time- I have gone off and on using this over the course of two years and have now come back to it-- now I've noticed huge changes over that timeframe. You shouldn't expect to see results within just a few weeks, as this is not a quick fix, but it's a great starting point for beginners and long term check in too for the more seasoned. I have consistently found over the years that putting the audio feedback down low to 45%-25% of the slider seems to help. It loses a star because sometimes the audio feedback can be so distracting and overwhelming at 50%+ that it actually defeats the purpose of calming your mind and achieving multiple "Recoveries" in a session. Additionally, the expensive price could be more justified with additional guided/narrated content.

The process does work...

...but the App has a few troubles. I’ve been Musing for over two years. It’s been transformation for me. The neurobiofeedback from the device and App provides meaningful and actionable information to raise self-awareness to a new level. The potential to improve ones inner self then extends to all aspects of life. Don’t expect the app to be trouble free because it seems to require continuous tweaking from Muse. These are generally niggly sorts of things that don’t detract too much from the benefit, thankfully. But give yourself a boost and try the device faithfully. Give it time to start making a difference because it is slow at the start. Realize you’re probably not going to achieve perfection ever. But stay consistent and it will pay off and keep providing dividends. In today’s hyper-paced ADHD world we all need this. A lot!

For the analytical types allows deeper reflection

Great to get feedback and be able to see your improvement over time. When you perform low on challenging days allows you to reflect on what may be causing you to struggle with achieving calm. Without the gauge and score it would be hard to determine how your state of mindfulness is holding up. Nice to measure how well your doing in more stressful life times vs more easy life times. Allows you to consider your current life state and how well you are able to stay in control relative to your life situation. Make sure you adjust the settings so feedback isn't to disruptive to your focus.
