Ratings and Reviews

Perfectly simple

I love this app and have used it for my life list for a long time now. It’s so easy to use and there are no buttons and bells that get between me and my checklists. And the big, red letters that tell me when I get a life bird are always exciting!

great listing app for eBirders

This is a very useful app for making birds lists for you own records and to submit to eBird. The one-star reviews fall in two classes: those that have rated their own intelligence level by not taking the time to learn and utilize all the features-most of their complaints are simply wrong; and those who experienced problems with an update and were understandably frustrated. The update problems (these affected me too) are resolved with uninstall & reinstall (if you haven't backed up your data recently then you lose all past lists).

This app has all the birds of the world. You can set filters for the country or state you are interested in and also make template lists for sites visited frequently. It is easy to add numbers to species already on the list and quick to add a new species. It is easy to submit to eBird: email your list to yourself, then import data to eBird on your PC or laptop. In this way you also have the lists backed up a secondtime. And aside from uploading lists all of it works offline.

There are some quirks - like Yellow Warbler always appearing at the end of a site list instead of with the other warblers but overall a great app that is well worth $3.

My Bird Obs still the best

I purchased this app a few versions back and have watched it grow with more features each release. I'm impressed with the responsiveness of the developer, too. For the price, you get more in this app than all the other bird counting apps. Speaking of which, I recently investigated the others to compare with My Bird Obs.

Twitcher is a UK-only app, so no good for me in the US. Birdcountr is another app but has a way to go before coming up to par. The closest one in my estimation is Birdwatcher's Diary. It does have a fast-scroll feature (a needed feature for My Bird Obs) to make it faster to enter data in the field instead of scrolling through long lists to make entries. However, a quick look at BD scared me away because using it doesn't appear quick or intuitive. I don't want to have to spend hours reading the manual to use the interface. It looked too cumbersome. My Bird Observations still beats the competition and you can't beat the price. With the addition of a fast-scroll or fast-entry feature, I'd give this app 5 stars. For now, My Bird Observations deserves 4 1/2 stars. I have submitted over 100 eBird reports using this little app and love it!
