Well done! Recommended.

I used version 1.0 of this app for a few years updating to version 2.0.5 with IOS 7.1. This newest version runs fine on my iPad 2 but I was unable to transfer backup file from 1.0. I decided to cut and past the past entries that I wanted to keep to the newest version so that I'd have all my entries in one location. However, there might be an easier way to transition. The password entry is very secure and retrieval of a forgotten pw is now possible. Files backup to Drop Box in an unencrypted format and if you change the "sqlite" file extension on the backup to “txt”, it's readable but unformatted. To ensure privacy, I created a separate DropBox account known only to me for MyJournal backups and other private files.

There's a variety of user selected paper and fonts including bold, italics and colored. Pics can also be added. Entries are nicely presented on a summary page sorted by month. These can been narrowed down by user created Tags. Also, a search can also be performed via a popup calendar. Although I haven't tried it, entries can be exported in a variety of ways.

I paid $.99 for an addition Journal and it works as expected. However, it would be nice if I could use this second journal undated since it’ll be just for notes, to do’s and misc thoughts not requiring dates. It’s a very well thought-out app. I recommend it and I hope that the developers don't feel the need to "improve" it because it great the way it is.

Fails to launch

I've had this app for almost two years on two different iPhones. The old version worked fine to allow me to journal, by dictation or typing. As the number of journal entries increased, it took longer and longer for the app to authenticate and open. Basically what happens is the password screen appears, then type it in, then used to wait a few seconds and my journal would open. As time went on those few seconds turned into 10-20 seconds. Then 30-40 seconds. Then a few months ago it would take 3-4 minutes to open the app. Now it just can't complete the process at all. I type in my password and it tries for 30 seconds, then the screen goes black and the iPhone home screen appears. It won't launch. Luckily I have the contents backed up in Dropbox, but I can't access it via the app. My current frustration is I have no where to record this precious time in my life. I try to login so I won't forget that sweet thing that just happened, wait and wait, and it just crashes. So sad.

I've reached out to the developer multiple times and followed their instructions. It still fails to launch. In the last three months I've only successfully journaled once! They have nothing more to offer me in terms of support: "No one else is having issues with the app."

After discovering that I could not access any of my entries, I contacted the developer through their website. A man named James promptly responded. He kindly and patiently worked with me to try to recover my entries. He suggested downloading their "classic" app and it worked. The loss of these memories was devastating, and would have been permanent if James had not taken so much of his time to help. I don't know if he is an owner, an employee, or something in between but I am certain that any business with someone like him is a business worthy of praise and worthy of supporting.

Backed up regularly. Updated app. Months of journaling gone. Tried to backup/restore, nothing. Two different Dropbox files, one inaccessible one which had three or four DAYS of journaling. Seriously ill, disabled, the loss of this chronicle of the most difficult time in my 50 years on this earth. To think that it is all gone is heartbreaking. Absolutely heartbreaking.
