Ratings and Reviews
I’m lovin’ it!
Aii anyways, I use this app on the regular to look at the various maps, check the times of the trains, and getting directions to locations. Getting directions isn't the best, but it gets the job done (it could be better as explained in paragraph 2 😁).
One thing i would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to see in this app is an option called “must take” (or something of this nature) that forces the app to have to give you directions with the specific trains you want to take. I’ll provide an example, let’s say you’re at Times Square 42nd street subway station and you wanna go to Roosevelt Ave Jackson Heights subway station 74th street. There are multiple ways to get there. The app allows you to use the 7, E, F, and R trains. That’s perfect!, however, what I really want is to take the R to Queensboro Plaza and then transfer to the 7 train from there. The app doesn’t even suggest this, but there are and will be more reasons one might want to take other trains (the example provided is only 1 out of multiple). Anyways, thanks for you time. 😎
Buggy, crashes constantly
I would love to say this app was helpful and right when I first downloaded it it was, however at some point it started crashing any time I tried to do anything besides look at the home page. Sometimes it’s not even able to make it past the opening animation before it crashes. Before it started constantly crashing, I loved that I could use this on the weekends to find alternate routes where the train was actually running. I also loved that you could easily start from a different location than your current one, and that you could plan your route ahead of time. But it would be nice to see slightly better walking directions between the station or stop and your destination. Also, although the opening animation looks cool, it seems a little long and when the app keeps crashing in the midst of trying to get directions and the animation plays each time you reopen it, it gets a little old. It would be nice to see something really simple, or better yet, to see the home screen right away.
More Caching and Quicker Startup
Getting progressively better but....for v0.9.13
Please disable the startup animation. Imagine your running to the train and want to check the map or something else, but you spend 30 seconds got the app to startup to show you the startup animation. Allow it to be disabled with a quick start option please!!
Also my subway maps are downloaded but when I zoom in, it is blurry and not zooming properly. This used to work better. But on a related note, I had downloaded the maps but at one point when I reopened the app without Internet connection, the maps were not available. Maybe due to an app update but the maps should be cached, should have high resolution, and should try to cache right away when you load the app.
