I don't know why a calculator that recognizes handwriting is so much more fun than a calculator with buttons, but it is.

There's just a little time lag between writing a problem and getting the answer -- a good length of time for a human to race the machines last week at them tutoring center where I volunteer, a student and I had fun writing problems for the other to try to answer before the calculator did. He's pretty advanced and quick, so we had no complex problems with square roots and fractions, but you could use it very easily for kids just practicing addition of single digit numbers.

Yes, I still think there are good reasons for kids to learn basic arithmetic facts even when we have calculators. We don't have to rely on bring able to do huge sums by hand, it it's good to be able to guess what might work for a story problem or algebra problem. If a right triangle has legs of 5 and 12, is it plausible that the hypotenuse is 13? 25? 144?

The future in my 4th Grade fantasies is here!

Every once in while, you come across a piece of technology that reminds you how advanced we are as a species. That there is now a tool that can turn our handwritten math equations into a functional calculator is truly something to behold.

The MyScript calculator does this very thing quite well, although there is a slight learning curve to drawing the symbols for the app to correctly process them as you intended. You'll also either need to write out a long string to calculate multiple values, or else write down the solutions for the next equation, as there is no memory function or value continuation that are common on calculators. (Please add these!) But aside from needing a stylus to write out long equations, the app works beautifully.

My 9 year-old self from the past thanks MyScript for making this science-fiction fantasies a reality.

I LOVE this calculator!

Way faster than any scientific calculator and nearly effortless to use. It is great to be able to compose your expression right on the calculator without otherwise having to write it down first and then input it into a scientific calculator in typically restrictive fashion. Then Being able to edit the expression after calculation makes it that much better! I rarely take the time to write reviews, but I was compelled to come back and write this one, it's that good.

My only tiny improvement suggestion would be to move the Trash (clear) icon away from right up under the Upload icon, as it is used often and very easy to mistakenly hit (and have to wait to cancel) Upload all the time. Other than that, great tool! Get it while it's still no charge!
