What's new in version 1.1.0
* Improvement of our recognition engine
* Bug fixes
* iOS9 support
In theory, this is a great alternate keyboard. In practice, there are still a few bugs the developers need to fix. The cursor has a tendency to randomly jump to a different place in the line or a different line altogether, and I can confidently say that it is not because I am touching the screen. I rest my hand of a square of felt to prevent interference when I am writing. Annoying bug number two: It reads the first marks I make in a new paragraph so quickly that it frequently converts it to text before I am done with the letter and ends up being the wrong letter as a result, and I usually have to try several times or switch to a regular keyboard to get a quotation mark at the beginning of a paragraph. I would
also like it to have a customizable dictionary and better symbol recognition. It has a tendency to turn 2s into Zs, and I would very much like to be able to use em dashes.
Overall, I like the keyboard enough to keep using it, but I hope to see improvements in future updates.
So close to excellent - please improve it!
Once I had purchased the 9.7" iPad Pro plus Apple Pencil, downloading this handwriting keyboard was the obvious next step. And it is the best possible way to input text when using a keyboard is not optimal -- for example, on a train or bus. It's very close to great, but just annoying enough that I keep looking for better alternatives (and not finding them). Suggestions:
1. Palm support
2. Get the widgets out of the bottom row. Not just the delete button for right-handers, but also the next-keyboard button for left-handers like myself.
3. Introduce a way to limit text input to digits or to numbers. I find it very hard to input numbers, and keep reverting to another keyboard to do that. The Mazec keyboard (quite unusuable otherwise) has a button that does this.
4. Similarly, make the keyboard better at doing punctuation. A long hyphen (—) appears to be impossible, and the keyboard does a poor job telling "(" apart from "C". Commas often don't work out well either.
5. Does this keyboard learn from your choices when it presents alternatives? Nothing in the documentation says that it does (and it feels like it doesn't), but that's an obvious next step.
I really hope this keyboard is developed further. It is a great idea!
I generally don't write reviews but have been so impressed with this app I decided to share my experience.
I bought a IPad Pro 9.7" with a pencil and have been learning how to use them. I was looking for handwriting apps and tried a number of them. Notability works well as do others but none of them recognize handwriting. In the past I tried the MyScript add-in with a livescribe recording digital pen but the handwriting recognition was poor.
In the'd the MyScript Smart Note app and that works well but is clumsy exporting the recognized text to other applications.
I thought a perfect solution would be to use the Myscript handwriting recognition in other apps like "Pages" or "word".
Then I saw the myscript Handwriting keyboard app. I tried it an Eureka, that was the solution. I have written hundreds of pages of notes, emails, texts and presentations using the app. When I am a bit careful the recognition is 100%.
The app isn't perfect but is so good I use it all the time. the app is flawless when printing.
For the very best results, I write at a desk or table.
Handwriting is a nice change of pace and a wonderful way to capture thoughts.
Hope Myscript keeps improving the app. It is a delight to use.
