Entertaining and challenging for a novice
For a novice, the clues given from the toad were extremely helpful. Even though I experienced a great deal of crashing throughout the game, primarily at the creatures' cave, I was eventually able to finish. I found the game imaginative and thought-provoking. It required a good deal of concentration for a novice, like myself. I never was able to locate and activate the 'play' button on the monitor and was glad that didn't prevent me from moving forward. The crashing was a huge issue, so I was extremely pleased when I was finally able to continue. FYI, I'm not sure how I broke through the major crash spot (the creatures' cave), but once I synchronized with my computer, I was able to progress. I still crashed on occasion, but it didn't prevent me from moving forward. I also had two versions of the game. The successful format was the "full" version. The other still crashed at the cave. I am providing this information as a help to others who might have encountered the same crashing problem. Not being technologically savvy, the crashes might have been caused by the latest iOS 5 format on my iPad 1. Who knows!
Great Game, Clumsy Controls
Pros: This game was really interesting, challenging, and fun. It was surprisingly long. Really good hint system too. Only needed a couple, but when I needed them, I really needed them.
Cons: The navigation controls in this game were maddening at times. When trying to move out of a room at the bottom of the screen it was a constant battle between going where you want to go and accidentally opening your inventory. Also, a few too many hidden object scenes with too many multiple items, (5 butterflies, 6 swords, etc.) for my taste.
Overall, I would highly recommend. Definitely a good value. I never had any problems with crashes or freezes, just navigating.
Just a word of caution, the game is a bit on the creepy side. My 11 year old started to play the game with me, but she was too creeped out. Probably not a game for tweens and younger, unless they are just really into creepy games.
Excellent adventure game, with problems
Not too hard, not too easy. Like in Goldilocks, it's just right. On the second time through, I hit several sticking points, where no matter how many times I tapped, I couldn't pick up an item. I had to skip a couple of puzzles because they wouldn't allow any movements. Once I skipped, the game worked alright, again. Only had one spot like that a year ago, when I first purchased it. Upgrade problems? Don't know, but it was annoying. It was also annoying that the back button was so close to the inventory. MANY times, I would try to back out of a scene, and end up opening the inventory instead. It also happened when an item was near the bottom of a hidden object scene. I'd click the item and find myself out of the scene. Please FIX THESE ERRORS to get 5 stars.
I have purchased other games in this series and, so far, I like them all.
