Description

myTracks turns your iPhone into a fully functional GPS logger. During recording, you can add waypoints to highlight important locations. The GPS tracks are stored on your iPhone and optionally in iCloud. There is no need to register or login to any internet service. Your tracks are your tracks.

You can start and stop individual GPS recordings or use the power-saving diary mode. Using this mode myTracks automatically creates a single track for each day with the most important locations.

The integrated Apple Watch app displays information about the current GPS recording. This includes the starting time, distance traveled, current, minimum and maximum elevation.

Here is an overview of the main features of myTracks:
- GPS Recording: You record GPS tracks using different time intervals accuracy settings. There is no need for an active internet connection.
- Vector Maps: The tracks are shown on vector maps based on OpenStreetMap.
- Offline Maps: myTracks provides offline maps for every country of the world. Once an offline map has been loaded to your iPhone you can zoom in to any detail of the map without an internet connection. Offline maps are available as in-app purchase.
- Track Organization: You can organize your tracks using folders, e.g. a folder for a year a folder for a holiday.
- Export and Sharing: Tracks can be exported as GPX, KML or KMZ files.
- Diary Mode: myTracks has a special recording mode called Diary Mode. Once this mode has been started myTracks creates a single track for each day. It uses a power efficient iOS feature called "major location changes". The Diary Mode can be switched on all the time without drilling down your battery.
- Search: Within myTracks you can search for addresses or special points (POIs).
- iCloud: All your tracks and the folder structure is synchronized between all your Apple device, both iOS and macOS.
- Apple Watch: myTracks for iOS contains an Apple Watch App with quick access to all major features and information of your recording.
- Track Import: GPS tracks can be imported to the track library from other apps using the GPX file format.
- myTracks is ad-free

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Almost perfect

I think I had a minor learning curve at the beginning. Maybe a brief FAQ about tips and apparent quirks would help newbies.

I’ve used this app long enough now to understand how it works. Free offline maps would be great, but not if that requires a bunch of ads found in other apps.

My biggest gripe (and it’s really a small gripe) is that all new tracks are always added to the bottom of the list, no matter how it’s sorted. After two years of tracks, it takes a while to scroll.

All in all, this is a great app. It may or may not have been one star all those years ago, but it’s four or five stars now.

Great app. Even better with the companion for the Mac. Three suggestions. First, show the speed while walking all of the time. Second, there is no scale factor or bar so it is difficult to estimate distances on the maps between features. Finally, if you load a map, it would be nice to have an elapsed distance with a reset function so you can tell how far you have travelled since your last load or reset.

The app itself tracks position well. You have to change the US/metrics settings from the iPhone settings app though. You can take photos which are geotagged and placed in there proper location on the route. You can add and name waypoints. When you sync up with the computer, you can join and split routes. You can also rename a route to something more useful. All in all, I think this is a very stellar app.

Adding pictures and Waypoints

The Core Affect

Thanks again for the most recent update. Please....please....add waypoint syncing with the desktop app!!!!!

Old Review:
Thanks for the recent update! The app seems to be 'almost there.'

Again, I would love to see waypoints from the desktop app sync to the iPhone.

Also, I like how pics taken with the app now save to the camera role, but you need to be able to add pictures to the tracks from the camera role. When I am hiking and want to take a pic, I rarely open the camera app or a GPS app to take one. That takes too long. Usually I just swipe up on the camera logo from the lock screen and snap away. Thus, being able to add pics from the camera role to the app and track would be ideal. Thanks.

Edit: Just noticed that when you go to enter tags for a given track, the screen does not scroll up far enough to see the field you are typing in and is obscured by the keyboard. Also, not sure if tags sync from the iOS devices to the Mac app. Only seem to to sync from Mac to iOS

Edit #2: app has crashed several times over the past month since updating to iOS 9. This occurs while recording a track--only half of the track is recorded. Please update.
