Ratings and Reviews
Works well doing only a few things
Napkin does a good job of capturing and minimally annotating the capture. It has a very limited range of features however. The one standout feature it has is the call-out, but you can easily duplicate that feature in other screen capture software by zooming the screen and using a circular capture. Given the few features and comparatively high price, it is a poor value. I used Voila for years and now Capto. It is vastly superiour to Napkin with a large range of features and adjustments for each feature (i.e. line width, dual tip arrow, arrow head shape, rectanges, ovals, circles, DropBox synch, etc - you get the idea). Not to mention, Capto will record screen activity into a movie. Capto will crash from time to time, and I’m always looking for someting perfect so I try stuff like Napkin when I see it. So, my recommendation is skip Napkin and check out the competition - you’ll find a better product.
Nice Concept but Limited and Buggy - Prefer MONOSNAP!
I like the idea of it but find it to be mostly unasable or, at minimum, inconvenient. For simple screen shots There are one or two more steps to screen shot and share than many of the other screen shot apps which, when doing many screen shots per hour, adds real time. And, when creating more complex collecitons of screen shots on a single canvas I find the images get corrupted.
It is missing the tools I would like for annotation such as hilight, shapes, differnet size arrows, etc. For the price of this app I am dissapointed and have gone back to using Evernote until I find something that has the approach of Napkin with the human factors and reliability of Evernote.
Working with a few different options and am finding MonoSnap to hit all of the marks from Napkin and from other capture apps I have used. And, it is free with most of the features of Napkin and so far has been more stable.
Powerful but intuituve
I bought this app primarily to help me make tutorials, and I was worried that it might be overkill for my needs. I bought it based on its reputation, and I'm very glad I did. It does everything I am looking for, and I find myself immediately using some of its more powerful features without struggling for a moment with some of the usual hassles of image markup. The call-out tool in particular is great, and works perfectly for what I need. The helpful hints when I click on the "?" icons are some of the best in-app support I've seen. I could've managed with Skitch or similar apps, but I'm actually quite glad that I spent the money on this app.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
