Perfect for quick documentation and walk throughs
Quick update on my review with the latest 1.5 release: Napkin is even more awesome than before. Far greater control over boxes and arrows and the abilty to hide certain bits of a screenshot is super useful.
This great application is my go-to when I need to produce any kind of quick 1 or 2-page how-to document or walk through, whether for clients or family. The screen capture function is perfect, and Napkin has some great ways to annotate. Sharing is incredibly easy - dragging the document icon from the app to e-mail automatically creates a PNG-format document that recipients on any platform can read.
Dissapointed by Screenshot Feature...
Just bought this app and was really excited by the screenshot feature because this is the main way I plan to get images into the app for annotation. Alas, I found immediately that you can’t screenshot something that is on a different desktop - the crosshairs disappear if you swipe to a different one. This also means if you use the application in full screen mode the screenshot is absolutely useless.
Otherwise it seems like a really cool application and I am sure I will get use out of it… I will just have to continue to use Skitch to get the initial screenshot and export the image before bringing it into Napkin.
Tried again after the 1.5 update, deleted again
I originally deleted this app soon after purchasing the 1.0 because I just couldn't deal with the default behavior of click/drag. In every other Mac app, that action starts a selection rectangle and that is totally hardwired in my muscle memory. But in this app it immediately starts to draw and it drives me nuts every single time.
At the time I e-mailed the developers and they were nice but ultimately refused to change it or make it optional. I was hoping that version 1.5 would fix this or at least introduce the preferences option. Unfortunately that's not the case, and so the app goes to the Trash again until this is fixed, perhaps in 2.0.
