Great Annotation App with Room for Improvement

I create a lot of annotated images to help teachers and students learn how to use various apps and websites, and I’ve been looking for something with a few more features than Preview. Napkin is a step up, though it has room to expand:

- The Call-Out tool is by far the standout feature of the app and it’s awesome.
- The open canvas makes it easy to add annotations outside of the main image, which is helpful
- I like the arrow drawing feature to quickly add arrows
- The image frames look great
- It’s easy to use

- The worst part for me is that the text is not rendered very smoothly at all in resulting PNG and JPG images (they look scraggly). PDF exports are better, but I don’t always want to use a PDF.
- When working on the canvas, there is no zoom function, so you have to pan to different areas to see everything.
- The text styling seems buggy - sometimes text appears with an outline, though I can’t see any way to enable or disable this.
- If you are used to Option+Dragging objects to make duplicates, you’ll be drawing lots of arrows you don’t want!
- Personally, I don’t like the system font dialog. It would be great to have more rich text options (like being able to bold individual words in a text box or add a shadow).

Help Desk

I use Napkin on a help desk to send customers marked up screenshots. Sometimes the app feels a little clunky, but its proabably because I haven’t really learned how to use it effeciently yet. Being able to obscure sensitive information is really helpful, and being able to drag the marked up image right into an email is very convenient.

The easiest way to markup Screenshots

I use screenshots to communicate user inteface ideas and create training materials all the time and Napkin makes it easy.

Drag graphics onto the Napkin from the desktop and start marking them up. Click the share button to save your idea as a PNG or to send it as an email.
