Please note the following:
Positioning your iPhone correctly in the vehicle is very important to ensure optimal GPS reception! We recommend that you use the NAVIGON Design Car Kit for the iPhone, which includes both a designer suction pad holder and a car charger, enabling you to charge your iPhone during the journey. Available from specialist retailers or from the NAVIGON shop directly at www.navigon.com!
Should you experience GPS reception problems with your iPhone, please refer to the FAQ on our website:www.navigon.com.
Allowing GPS to run in the background for extended periods can lead to a significant reduction in battery life.
Whether in the car, by bike or on foot, NAVIGON hopes you have fun navigating.
What's New in Version 2.9.1
- Enhanced contrast of menus if "reduced transparency" in the iPhone's accessibility settings is turned to ON
- Various small improvements and bug fixes
Thank you for the update!
Navigon has been my go-to Mac app since I first used it way back on the iPhone 3GS. Not even the mighty Google can top it, in my opinion. When Garnin purchased Navigon and came out with the Viago app -- which I have also used too try it -- I worried that maybe Navigon would be forsaken. I'm so glad I was wrong!
While I will admit that I do like how Viago has a better display of street names on the map, and seems to have better scaling of the map as turns and destinations come up... I still find I prefer Navigon features and behavior for everything else. I especially loathe how Viago handles map download selections.
Don't backtrack, Garmin!! Take the small number of things that Viago does better and bring them back to Navigon. Of the two products, this one is far closer to perfection, in my opinion having used them both.
Navigon still needs navigation training
Unfortunately Navigon is still navigationally challenged when it comes to audio directions, mixing up the north, east, south, and west cardinal directions. They got them partially fixed two version ago, and was hoping they would fix the rest of the voice direction over the last two releases, but alas that is not the case. How can a navigation company not get this right and not be willing to fix a critical bug link this? Guess I'll continue using Google and Apple maps for now...
Two annoying features: maps not backed up, now requires cellular connection at times.
The one useful feature of NAVIGON is that it works without using cellular data. So it’s very annoying that the most recent release requires cellular data at times. Another annoyance is maps aren’t backed up, so after a restore you have to download maps again.
It could be better.
