What's New in Version 1.2.4
A professional News Team with an frustrating App
Why is this app garbage? It continually freezes, not kept up to date, does not conform to any schedule, program disabling advertising and censors what it puts on it. You would think for a professional news company who can afford it, they would put out a quality product and not an applications that breeds frustration every time you use it? 1) it can up to five days behind from the last broadcast, and continually two days behind. For a news service, that’s OLD NEWS. 2) It freezes, I mean freezes, the spinning wheel of death somewhere during the broadcast. You have to exit, delete from memory, go back in, start the broadcast the go to the last story you where watching and start it again… 3) The big reason for the freezes is their attempt to put in LONG advertising clips “randomly” between the news stories. Not sure who wrote the program, but I’d live to have his powerful computer as this DOES NOT work on an iPad Air with fast internet connection, or my iPhone 5s or Mini. 4) Sometime, when you do get to watch, there only four stories out of 8 or 9 on the line, what’s that about?
THIS IS NOT A RELIABLE PROGRAM EITHER TECHNICALLY OR INFORMATION WISE. You are much better off looking elsewhere.
THE FULL BROADCAST IS BACK !!!
UPDATED REVIEW: I just checked and saw they bought back the full broadcast! Thanks NBC and Brian Williams for making my day and listening to your viewers. Now, maybe I can lose this 10 pounds I've gained over the past two weeks! (Ps: You should use any excuse for a new App Update and announce in the "What's New" section that the "full broadcast is back!")
ORIGINAL REVIEW 4/9/13: I've watched NBC Nightly News for most of my life. Couldn't start dinner until I'd seen what Brian Williams had to say that day! With my iPhone, and this app, I didn't have to be on my TV at exactly 6:30 PM. I could catch the full broadcast anytime I wanted later that evening or the next day. WHAT HAPPENED? PLEASE BRING BACK THE FULL BROADCAST! Are you trying to drive me to CNN full-time? Now, I'm going to start gaining weight again!
My parents watch the NBC Nightly News local broadcast every night. I do not, as I and many my age get our news from the internet. This should be a major concern for NBC News. However, it is quite telling on how far NBC has fallen that the one thing that could help change this trend and make this American institution relevant to a new generation (namely this iPad app) DOES NOT WORK! It's been broken now for 7 months. My experience is that it will NOT show a whole broadcast; the broadcast is broken into separate videos which the app strings together into a full broadcast, however when it does so the video almost always goes black.
NBC, if you really want to continue to matter to people after the baby boomers are gone, you need to get your act together and fix your app, just like everyone else.
