At Nest, we make products that are beautiful, thoughtful and easy to use. The Nest app is no exception.

Control your Nest Learning Thermostat, arm and disarm your Nest Secure alarm system, see your home with Nest Cam, and know if Nest Protect goes off – all in one place. And get notifications on your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.

Nest uses sensors, algorithms and the location of your phone to do the right thing automatically, turning off the heat and turning on the camera when you leave. Forgot to set the alarm? Nest notices and will send you a Remind Me alert. And everyone at home can get notifications and control the Nest products they need with their own Nest Account – no more sharing passwords.

Works very well, better than Ring

We had Ring Doorbell and Sticky Cams at our old house along with a security company startup Scout, and Ecobee thermostats. Decided to just switch over to Nest in our new home and am beyond happy with the performance. We have outdoor cameras, the security system and two nest thermostats— will order the nest doorbell once it’s available (March supposedly). Aside from having one app to show and control everything, I honestly think Nest is just much better quality and reliability than the previous stuff we had.
The only downsides so far:
• It’s quite expensive once you add it up. Probably spent $1500 on the system and install. I think it’s worth it but it isn’t cheap
• The Nest Guard (hub for security) isn’t too loud. Wish it had volume control or just a much louder speaker as it’s hard to hear the voice unless you are in the same room as it
• Subscription Services for security and cameras can add up. Not any different than all other vendors so I guess this isn’t a downside.. but still wish subscriptions were cheaper

Really Frustrating

This app works ok for adjusting the thermostat. For using Nest cams, it’s really bad — I wouldn’t recommend. The live video mostly works ok, but if you try to play back any video, it almost ALWAYS hangs, regardless of how fast the internet connection is. When it hangs, it rarely recovers, and so you lose your position because you have to refresh it. The problem is made worse because it’s so difficult to scrub to a position in the timeline, you have to go to the closest 5 minute then jump 15 seconds at a time. Also, if you try and zoom in on a video to adjust the view, half the times it swipes back to the main screen and you lose your position then, too. Creating clips in the app is downright awful (it’s better through the Nest website, but still not great). And it’s not like this is free — we paid $450 for three cameras and pay $20/month to use the video recording. I don’t know if any other brand is better, but I doubt it could be worse.

On a side note, I tried calling Nest support twice for the thermostat and waited 20 or 30 minutes each time before giving up.

Thermostat keeps changing set temperature

For as smart as this thing is touted as being, it can’t seem to follow a simple direction. I read reviews saying that an ecobee might be better for the job for a 2 story home like mine since their thermostat can be paired with 2 temperature sensors instead of the 1 nest has. I’m starting to think that would have been the best route for me.

This thermostat can’t seem to stick to the temperature I set. My homes upstairs fluctuates in temperature the most and I was able to with my old thermostat just to set it to one temp overnight. Nest keeps auto adjusting even after I’ve disabled auto-schedule. The site instructions are also outdated so the step by step doesn’t match the options on the nest itself.

I’m tired of waking up 4 times every night because the rooms are way too hot or cold. I deleted all the scheduled points and plan to call support tomorrow as well. Had I known it would be so difficult to perform such a basic task, I would have bought a different device.
