Great products, great app!

I love technology and I’ve worked in tech for 25 years, I buy this stuff because I like to play around with it. I also use some of my cameras at remote sites, like in server rooms or my office for security. In total I have 9 protects, 8 temp sensors, 2 thermostats, 1 doorbell, 1 smart lock, 4 indoor cameras, 2 IQ outdoor cameras, 6 regular outdoor cameras, and a nest protect with 4 door/window sensors. Everything literally works perfect. In the many years I’ve owned all this gear, I started with one camera, I’ve never had one single failure or issue. I run Ubiquiti UniFi networks at all my locations which also works flawlessly. The wired and wireless network and good internet is key here. Not just strong WIFI signal, but quality equipment. If your using a $200 camera with a $30 WiFi router you’re probably going to have issues. I used an AirPort Extreme before, and didn’t have any issues until I started using them as WIFI extenders to get better signal to my outdoor cameras. Don’t extend your WiFi, run a cable to another access point to improve your WiFi signal. Once I did that all my problems went away. If you combine the right network equipment and layout with your SmartHome environment you won’t have any issues. 👍

Terrible app

This is one of my most inconsistent apps on my phone. Shuts off, doesn’t respond to the change in temperature or heat/cold. The eco mode is spotty at best. Their website/service (includes the app) goes down at least once every other day.

The service going down is really the biggest problem. You are out an about and maybe you want to change your temp? Or turn eco mode off for the pets in the house? Nope, I want to say without exaggeration, 5 out of 10 times it does t work or connect. That is terrible. Thought the app would get better. NOT. Almost two years later and it is still a terrible app. Don’t waste your money. Get a different thermostat.

Kinda not “smart”

I don’t think it’s very good at divining what temperatures you want and when. I’m not sure that it knows when I’m away. The “Schedule” part of the app is the absolute worst part of the entire UI. Whoever pooped out that malformed piece of software should be fired. If you manage to painstakingly set up a schedule it’s just going to get overwritten by the “smart” bits anyway. It also takes a surprisingly long time to start up the app. Might as well just walk down the hall and adjust it by hand. At that point why not buy a cheap thermostat for like $20 and pretend it’s smart. Pretending is working out well for Nest I suppose.
