Well Worth Paying For

I rarely write reviews, but this app is too good not to acknowledge it. I would give it 4.5 stars, in reality. The author does a fabulous job of describing locations - his own words and reviews, not from a Wiki or other source (at least to my knowledge). I'd had a number of other NYC apps, each with limited coverage, hard to navigate interface, etc; I wish I'd just bought this from the beginning, as it made researching what we wanted to do in NY a breeze. I particularly like how I can save locations to my favorites and then see my favorites on the map; with a place as vast as NYC, strategically hitting places you want to see by neighborhood is an absolute must, so this app has become my only "go to" for exploring (with a little Yelp and Google Maps of course). The recent update seems to have solved some minor stability issues (it could crash occasionally) and the offline content downloads. Extremely minor interface glitches sometimes come up, but are not at all a detraction. My only wish list for this (and why I knocked it down a half star) is that I'd love to save my favorites to multiple devices. I do my research on my iPad, but then am exploring the city on my iPhone; I wish I could synchronize across my devices so I don't have to save a favorite twice. Otherwise, this is well worth the $5, particularly because you can ask the author questions - its like having a tour guide on standby!

A great help!

My wife and I celebrated our 30th anniversary by spending 3 nights in Times Square at the Doubletree Hilton. This application combined with web research really helped narrow down the options. We ended our evenings at the R Lounge in Times Square as the guide suggests. We would have never known that the R Lounge was in The Renaissance hotel across the street without this app. Other highlights were The Halal guys street cart, Soup Man, Flat Iron district. The ability to have favorites with all the addresses, info, phone numbers available proved to be invaluable. Thankfully, I had this app about 1 week before we went. I had time to research. Think of it this way, if you spend 4 to 5 dollars on this app and it saves you a wasted cab ride, you've already paid for the app with 1/2 of a cab fare! We visited the 911 memorial, got on Letterman, Empire State Building tour, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Central Park - We love NY!

The application allows you to comment and give observations to help fellow travelers. Jeffrey is very responsive.

I am not suggesting this is the only resource your need for planning a trip to NYC - do your homework. We knew exactly what restaurants we were going to as we are foodies, but the app helped us know what things to see along the way and helped us plan our itinerary accordingly! This app is a no brainer.
