What's New in Version 1.6.5
Minor updates and enhancements.
Please offer ad-free upgrade!!
Ridiculous. First, the ever-present banner ads that try to place phone calls to the advertiser. Then, full page ads between articles. Now today, the app gives a dialog box asking to install some third party ad-ware. The dialog box had only one button - labeled [INSTALL]! I had to reset the app! Please let die-hard New Yorkers get our Post without all the crazy ads. We will pay for it! Other than that, a five-star app.
Now with loud video ads?!
I understand the need for advertising, but I have to draw the line at the sudden explosion of loud video ads that wake up my kids when I'm trying to read quietly. If I want to see/hear video I'll click on it. Also, the app "sticks" a lot and I can't scroll down when opening new articles. I'm assuming this is also because advertisements are loading. Again, I'm fine with advertising, but when it starts to ruin the experience of reading the articles I start thinking about paying for the NY Times.
Hire a CTO or kill the ads
The ad tech implementation is incredibly bad. Does anyone working at the Post actually use the app? You are treating paying customers like crap. Frequency, volume on, repetitiveness of ads have made the NY Post app almost unusable. Impossible to skip the interstitial ads without clicking on them. Won't be renewing.
Word of advice: create a free tier with all the ad load you want, but don't hose your paying subs with bad user experience. Guarantee retention and engagement are dropping. Death spiral..
