Customer Reviews

Newsbar 3.8

This an excellent news reader for several reasons:

1. It behaves consistently day after day, last thing you want is to try figuring out why you’re looking at something. There are no surprises with NewsBar.
2. Set up is simple: just go to the web and find your feeds and copy them into the setup preference. I tried others, I won’t name names like Feedly, etc. and many run like some sort of government project. First, they take over your life and then you spend your days working for them…
3. Support is available and helpful. Been running NewsBar for 7 or 8 years? (a long time anyway) and only had one problem and it was either self inflicted or another issue in the trail of osSierra pain over the last 8 months or so. Support was there and it was fine.

Great app for scientific articles

I use the app as an RSS reader for scientific papers, i.e. to get updates about the early view papers. You can group the feeds by topic and adjust the colors accordingly. The app shows you the abstract, but clicking on the title opens the journal article in your web brower. In general, the app is very flexible and and the bar can be adjusted to your need. I can highly recommend that great app!

Spinning Pinwheel always comes up

NewsBar has a lovely look and feel, but it frequently freezes when I try to click on an RSS entry or edit preferences. Also, on my laptop, the battery menubar icon tells me that NewsBar is a battery hog. That may be unavoidable as the app is constantly checking the internet for new posts. My main concern is that it so often freezes when I try to use it.
